The advance booking of Ram Setu and Thank God has begun since a few days. But several single-screen cinemas have not yet got the go-ahead to open the bookings. According to the sources in the exhibition sector, the show sharing issues have cropped up. This has become a common occurrence when two big films clash at the box office. What has added to the woes this time is that the festival of Diwali will be celebrated tomorrow while Ram Setu and Thank God will arrive a day after, on Tuesday, October 25. The exhibitors were hoping to sell tickets by now and thereby enjoy the Diwali festival. But with advance booking kept on hold in these cinemas, the exhibitors are angered lot.
Manoj Desai, executive director, G7 multiplex and Maratha Mandir Cinema, has often raised his voice against this practice. When Bollywood Hungama spoke to him to ask why he hasn’t begun bookings in Maratha Mandir, he didn’t mince words as he talked about his situation.
He said, “The issue is not just in Maratha Mandir. It has happened in many single screen cinemas across the country. We have been told not to open bookings kyunki pehle woh multiplex ko sambhalna chahte hai. Inki wajah se Diwali pe hum toh barbaad ho hi rahe hai. Main chahta hoon ki yeh log bhi barbaad ho jaaye. The films are releasing on Tuesday. It’s Sunday evening and we are still not allowed to open bookings. Nothing can be more unfortunate and shameful.”
When asked about the problem, he replied, “Ram Setu’s distributors are asking for more shows. Even Thank God’s distributors are making the same demand. Dono andar hi andar jhagad rahe hai. Aur isme hum phans gaye.”
When can we expect the advance bookings to begin in Maratha Mandir? Manoj Desai sighed, “I asked the same question just the same time back to Vinay Choksey of Aum Enterprise, who is the booker of our theatre. He told me, ‘Let the multiplex show sharing issue resolve. Kal sochte hai kya karna hai’. Can you imagine?”
He continued, “I had planned to give 2 shows to Ram Setu and 2 shows to Thank God in Maratha Mandir. But Ram Setu’s distributors are not satisfied. They are asking for 3 shows and that we should give just 1 show to Thank God. Those who make such demands, their films never work. Satyanaash ho in logon ka!”
Meanwhile, he has been allowed to start bookings of both the films in Gaiety-Galaxy aka G7 multiplex. There were murmurs that even Black Adam’s distributors might ask for certain shows since its performance has been decent over the weekend. But Manoj Desai clarified, “There’s no problem with regards to Black Adam. It’s only due to Ram Setu and Thank God’s distributors that we are suffering”
Manoj Desai has often given thunderous statements but this time, one can sense that his anger levels have gone considerably up. He rued, “Yeh log single screen theatre ko latka dete hai. So many single screens are shutting down. With great difficulty, I am running this theatre.”
He signed off by saying, “This is not the first time. It has happened in the case of so many films. We are fed up.”
