Prahaar, which was released on October 16, has been appreciated for its subject, dramatic and emotional moments, award-worthy performances and first-rate direction by Avinash Arun. Moviegoers who watched the film were pleasantly surprised to spot Aamir Khan's name in the 'Special Thanks' section of the credits. Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Avinash Arun to find out the reason behind this special mention.

Avinash Arun told us, “I have thanked him because he got me on board. He suggested my name to Mr Dinesh Vijan.” He added, “He told me, ‘Avinash, I think you'll do justice to this subject and I think you should consider this project’. That motivated me to take up Prahaar.”

Avinash Arun continued, “I am really grateful to him because since my first film Killa (2015), Aamir sir has been following my work. Even after Paatal Lok, he called me.”

Can we expect a collaboration between the two? Avinash replied, “We are discussing a couple of things. So, hopefully, we'll work together soon!”

About Avinash Arun Avinash Arun is a renowned cinematographer as well as a director. A graduate of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, he has worked as a cinematographer on several significant films like Masaan (2015), Drishyam (2015), Madaari (2016), Hichki (2018) and Karwaan (2018).

He made his directorial debut with the acclaimed Marathi film Killa, followed by Three Of Us (2023) and web series like School Of Lies, Paatal Lok and Pritam And Pedro. Interestingly, he also served as the director of photography (DOP) on the projects he directed, although Saurabh Goswami shared the cinematography responsibilities on Season 1 of Paatal Lok. Even in Prahaar, Avinash Arun has donned the dual hats of director and cinematographer.

The Bombay High Court has sought an explanation from the Cine and Television Artistes Association (CINTAA) over its decision to hold elections and announce the results despite earlier court directions, as per a report by Times Now. The development follows a contempt petition filed by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), which has accused the association of disregarding judicial orders.

On October 22, Justice Aarti Sathe issued a show cause notice to CINTAA, stating that the material placed before the court indicated a prima facie case of wilful disobedience and breach of undertaking. The court has also restrained the association from implementing the outcome of the elections held on October 20, 2026.

FWICE’s petition alleges that CINTAA failed to comply with directions issued by the Bombay High Court on September 11 and October 19. The earlier orders required the parties involved in the dispute to refrain from taking further steps that could affect the court’s directions while a Notice of Motion remained pending before the trial court.

According to the petition, CINTAA went ahead with its election process and declared the results despite these restrictions. FWICE has therefore approached the High Court seeking action over the alleged non-compliance. The federation was represented by Advocates Saveena Bedi Sachar and Ashok Shetty.

The show cause notice, issued under Rule 9(1) of the Contempt of Courts (Bombay High Court Rules, 1994), requires CINTAA to explain why proceedings under the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971, should not be initiated against it. The allegations concern the purported disregard of the previous orders and/or a wilful breach of the undertaking given before the court.

The High Court’s direction means CINTAA cannot act on the October 20 election results or give effect to them while the restraint remains in place. The notice represents an opportunity for the association to respond to the allegations; the court has not yet made a final determination on the contempt petition.

The matter is scheduled to come up before the Bombay High Court again on November 18, 2026.

With more opportunities emerging for female-led films, conversations around gender parity, pay disparity and the commercial potential of women-centric stories continue to be a part of the entertainment industry. Actress Kriti Sanon recently shared her views on the changing landscape, highlighting the role of audiences in encouraging filmmakers to invest in stories led by women.

Kriti, who is reportedly set to headline a large-scale horror film backed by Maddock Films, also spoke about the difference in remuneration between male and female actors. While she acknowledged the growing number of substantial roles being written for women, she noted that pay parity remains an area that needs attention.

Talking about the rise of female-driven projects, the actress said, “With OTT and so many other platforms coming in, and also a lot of writers writing meaty parts for women, which is amazing, because now it's not just about male-driven films. There are many female-driven films that are also happening. Women are also opting for meaty parts. But of course, there is a lot of difference in the pay and the fee, which still needs to change. But it is all a mathematical calculation of what the return is going to be in theatres, what the platforms pay for certain films and certain actors.”

She added, “But I would actually like to say, I'm doing a film that is on my shoulders, a solo lead next. And I actually want the audiences to make it make as much money as it would if it had a male actor. Make it a blockbuster, and things will change. I feel it's not just about the industry. It's actually a calculated thing where how much you invest and how much you're getting is dependent on that. And actually, I feel the audiences need to make that difference also, you know, by watching a film regardless of the gender. So when that happens, and a film that's on a female's shoulders opens to big numbers, things will change.”

Through her remarks, Kriti emphasised that the success of female-led films at the box office could influence the industry's approach to casting, budgets and remuneration. She pointed out that the financial returns associated with a film play a role in determining how much producers invest in a project and how actors are paid.

The actress also called on audiences to support films based on their content rather than the gender of the lead actor. According to her, when a woman-led film achieves box-office numbers comparable to those of a male-led project, it could encourage the industry to explore more such ventures.

Kriti's next solo-led film is reportedly a large-scale horror project with Maddock Films. While further details about the project have not been confirmed in the information provided, her comments have brought attention to the commercial expectations surrounding female-led theatrical releases and the importance of audience participation in driving change.

Anil Kapoor revisited his cherished memories of late actor and filmmaker Satish Kaushik on an upcoming episode of India Ke Top 1% – The Anil Kapoor Show. A contestant named Gagan, whose appearance reminded people of Satish, prompted the host to recall his long-standing friendship with the actor and the bond they shared beyond their professional association.

During the interaction, Gagan told Anil that people often compared him to Satish Kaushik. He also recalled meeting the late actor while shooting in Delhi for the television show Sumit Sambhal Lega. The conversation led Anil to reflect on the closeness they shared and the many memories they had created together.

Speaking about their relationship, Anil said, “My bond with him, I cannot explain. Even if this shoot were 70 minutes long, it would not be enough to tell his stories. He used to tell me, ‘Tera talent lajawab hai (Your talent is unmatched).’”

Anil also recalled that he affectionately called Satish ‘Danny DeVito’. The two shared a fondness for the film Twins and had often imagined playing twin brothers in a film of their own. Explaining why he felt such a deep connection with Satish, Anil said, “Agar mera koi judwa bhai ban sakta hai, toh woh sirf Satish tha, kyunki usko mere baare mein har cheez pata thi mera gussa, meri khushi, har cheez (If I could have a twin brother, it could only have been Satish, because he knew everything about me—my anger, my happiness, everything). He knew me so well.”

The exchange also featured a light-hearted tribute to Satish’s comic legacy. Anil and Gagan recreated one of the late actor’s memorable dialogues on stage: “Mera naam hai Calendar, main chala kitchen ke andar (My name is Calendar, I am going inside the kitchen)!” Appreciating the contestant’s gesture, Anil told him, “Aapne mera dil jeet liya hai (You have won my heart).”

Anil then added a humorous suggestion for the audience, saying that if anyone had the money to make a film inspired by Twins, they should cast him and Gagan as twin brothers. The moment brought humour to an otherwise emotional conversation about his friend.

Satish Kaushik, who worked as an actor, director and screenwriter, shared a long association with Anil Kapoor. Their friendship and collaborations made them familiar figures in Hindi cinema, and Anil’s recollections offered a glimpse into the personal bond behind that association.

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan sparked nostalgia among fans after sharing a warm hug at the recent International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) press conference in Mumbai. The two actors, who were among Bollywood’s most widely discussed couples in the early 2000s, exchanged smiles and pleasantries at the event, with videos of their interaction subsequently circulating on social media.

The moment unfolded as Kareena stepped down from the stage, where she had been sharing the spotlight with Salman Khan and other attendees. Shahid, who was standing nearby, caught her attention, and the two greeted each other with a hug before briefly exchanging pleasantries. This is not the first time their friendly interactions at an IIFA event have generated interest online. In early 2025, the actors also exchanged greetings at an IIFA press event in Jaipur. Responding to the attention their interaction received at the time, Shahid had said that it was nice if people felt happy seeing them together, while adding that they often crossed paths in everyday life.

Shahid and Kareena’s relationship was widely followed during the early 2000s, when they also appeared together in films such as Fida (2004), 36 China Town (2006) and Chup Chup Ke (2006). Their most celebrated collaboration remains Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met (2007), in which they played Aditya and Geet. The film went on to become a popular romantic drama, and their on-screen chemistry continues to be remembered by audiences.

The actors later appeared in Milenge Milenge, which was released in 2010, and were also part of the ensemble cast of Udta Punjab (2016), although they did not share screen time in the latter film.

Both have since moved on in their personal lives. Shahid is married to Mira Rajput, while Kareena is married to Saif Ali Khan. Their latest interaction at the IIFA press conference offered a glimpse of their cordial equation at an industry event, bringing renewed attention to a pairing that remains familiar to Hindi film audiences.

Days after a shooting incident of Tiger Shroff in Mumbai’s Juhu neighbourhood, his team has shared a video on their official social media handle showing the injuries he sustained during the attack. The footage features visible cuts, abrasions and bruises, offering a glimpse of the physical impact of the incident. The actor reportedly escaped direct bullet injuries when unidentified assailants opened fire at his vehicle.

According to the details shared, the injuries were sustained amid the chaos as bullets struck the vehicle and shattered glass. The video shows marks on Tiger’s arms and back. The social media post comes as the investigation into the firing continues, with multiple agencies working to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify everyone allegedly involved.

The shooting took place at around 7 pm on Sunday, October 18, outside a sports facility in Juhu. According to reports, motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at Tiger’s car before fleeing the scene. The two-wheeler was reportedly abandoned near Andheri West railway station.

Tiger Shroff reportedly avoided fatal injuries, while his driver, Firdous, and a passer-by sustained injuries and were taken to Nanavati Hospital. The driver is said to remain under medical observation as he recovers.

Following the incident, an unverified social media claim linked the attack to the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate. However, the allegation has not been independently established, and investigators are continuing to examine the possible motive and the wider circumstances of the firing.

The Mumbai Crime Branch, working with other law enforcement agencies, has carried out arrests across several states in connection with the case. According to the details provided, the total number of people arrested had reached 10 by October 23.

Three key suspects, identified as Rehan Ansari, Phool Singh and Ritik Mahtoo, were reportedly apprehended in Kota, Rajasthan, while allegedly attempting to flee towards the Nepal border. They were subsequently brought to Mumbai. On October 21, a Mumbai court reportedly remanded the three suspects to police custody until October 31.

Investigators are also examining an alleged interstate weapons network and possible links between those accused of carrying out the attack and individuals suspected of assisting them. Further inquiries are reportedly focused on the planning of the incident, the movement of weapons and the possibility of a wider conspiracy.

The investigation has also prompted renewed scrutiny of security arrangements for prominent Bollywood personalities. Tiger’s representatives have expressed appreciation for the police response and urged people to refrain from circulating unverified information while the investigation remains ongoing.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has raised objections to the promotional content of Sunny Deol’s upcoming crime drama Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak, expressing concern over its portrayal of the medical profession. In a formal communication, the association questioned whether the film’s depiction of alleged corruption and violence against healthcare workers could contribute to negative perceptions of doctors and hospital personnel.

The IMA has outlined four key areas of concern, including the generalisation of alleged misconduct across the medical fraternity, the depiction of physical assaults on healthcare workers, the safety of medical personnel and the potential impact on doctor-patient trust.

In its letter, the association cautioned against portraying individual instances of wrongdoing in a manner that could reflect on the wider medical community. It stated, "The portrayal risks creating the impression that corruption, unethical practices, and alleged corruption in medical fraternity. While individual misconduct must be investigated and punished, the actions of a few must not be used to tarnish the reputation of countless honest and dedicated doctors."

The organisation also expressed concern over scenes involving physical confrontations in medical facilities, particularly if such actions are presented as justified. The IMA stated, "Scenes depicting physical assaults on doctors, nursing staff, and hospital personnel, particularly when presented as heroic or justified acts, risk normalising violence against those committed to saving lives."

Highlighting the safety concerns faced by healthcare workers, the association further said, "Doctors and healthcare personnel already face serious safety challenges in hospitals. Content that appears to glorify attacks on medical professionals may encourage hostility and further endanger those providing essential healthcare services."

The IMA also flagged the possible impact of such portrayals on public confidence in medical professionals, stating, "Such portrayals may foster unwarranted mistrust and hostility towards doctors, weakening the mutual trust and cooperation essential for effective treatment and healthcare delivery."

While making its objections known, the association clarified that it does not support unethical medical practices and that individual cases of misconduct should be addressed through statutory and disciplinary mechanisms. It argued that such instances should not lead to broad portrayals that could affect the reputation of the profession or discourage aspiring medical students.

As part of its appeal, the IMA requested an impartial review of the film’s content and asked for appropriate corrective measures to address its concerns. It also called on the relevant authorities to consider further action, stating, "In view of these concerns, we respectfully request... [an] impartial review of the film's content and its portrayal of the medical profession; seek appropriate corrective measures from the filmmakers to address the generalisation of alleged misconduct and the depiction of violence against healthcare workers; [and] consider a ban or other appropriate action if justified under applicable law."

Directed by M. Padmakumar in his Hindi directorial debut, Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak is an official remake of the 2018 Malayalam crime thriller Joseph. The film stars Sunny Deol as a retired police officer who investigates disturbing revelations involving medical malpractice and systemic corruption following a personal tragedy. The supporting cast includes Ravi Kishan, Pragya Jaiswal, Manish Wadhwa and Jisshu Sengupta.

Produced by Kamal Mukut, the film is scheduled to release theatrically on November 20, 2026. The IMA’s objections have brought attention to the film’s portrayal of healthcare workers ahead of its planned release.

Veteran actor Manoj Bajpayee has expressed concern over the firing incident targeting Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai’s Juhu neighbourhood, describing the situation as frightening and emphasising the need for a thorough investigation. Speaking to news agency ANI, Bajpayee said he was relieved that the Baaghi actor had escaped unharmed and hoped the authorities would take decisive action.

Reacting to the incident, Bajpayee said, “I don't see a gang war, but shots are being fired from who knows where, and that's really scary. Secondly, it's sad what happened to Tiger, but the best and happiest part is that he's safe, and his driver is also recovering slowly. Anyway, we aren't law and order experts or anything. From what I've heard in the news, the investigation is ongoing. The alleged suspects have been brought to Mumbai, and they've been arrested. I just hope the investigation wraps up as soon as possible and that an example is set so that next time, anyone will think twice before doing something like this.”

The incident took place on the evening of Sunday, October 18, when unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at Tiger Shroff’s car in Juhu before fleeing on a motorcycle. The actor escaped without gunshot injuries, while his driver, Firdous, and a bystander sustained injuries and were taken to Nanavati Hospital for treatment. The driver is reportedly recovering.

The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell is leading the investigation. According to reports, the suspected shooters fled Mumbai through Gujarat and Rajasthan and were intercepted in Kota before being brought back to the city. On October 21, a court remanded three accused to police custody until October 31 as investigators continued questioning them.

The probe has also widened beyond the alleged shooters. The Delhi Police Special Cell has reportedly arrested individuals suspected of being part of an interstate weapons supply network linked to the case. Investigators are examining possible connections to an overseas-based syndicate allegedly affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. An online claim of responsibility has also been reported, although the alleged links and motive remain subject to investigation.

Meanwhile, reports that the accused may have conducted reconnaissance near other prominent residences have prompted precautionary security measures, including heightened security around Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments in Bandra.

Tiger Shroff’s team has urged the public and media to avoid speculation while the investigation continues. The authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and determine whether a wider conspiracy was involved.

She added, “I hope all of you watch and enjoy the film. The performances are amazing. Ranbir as Lord Rama is magical. After this film, every time you think of Lord Rama, I really think that you will see Ranbir. That’s the kind of portrayal he has done.”

She then praised Sai Pallavi and Ravie Dubey, “Sai as Sita is again beautiful. She’s a phenomenal actor. She has essayed the part with a lot of purity and rootedness. She’s a delight to watch on screen. There couldn’t have been a better Lakshman than Ravie at all.”

Rakul Preet Singh further said, “Lastly, as for Yash, he is magical on screen. I don’t know how it’s humanly possible for a person like him to portray a role like that with so much conviction. It’s unreal. So, you have to see it on the big screen to witness the magic. I really hope you all like the film and believe in the vision that we have tried to create.”

Vishal Rana is all set to release his next film, Tu Hai Meri Kiran, this Friday, October 23. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the producer spoke about the film’s casting, its catchy title, the crowded release date and a lot more.

The first thing that stands out about Tu Hai Meri Kiran is that real-life couple Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal are seen in a completely different dynamic. How did that come about? The script came to me, and I found it interesting as it had a lot of twists and revolved around an obsessive lover. We approached Sonakshi first, and she really liked the story. We wanted an actress in the 25-30 age group, and she fit the bill.

Then it became a challenge to find an actor opposite her who could match her personality, aura, and demeanour. At the same time, the actor had to look more powerful than her, as he plays an obsessive, creepy stalker. We auditioned several actors, but we couldn't find the one we were looking for.

One day, I happened to meet Zaheer and felt that he should audition. When he tested for the part, my director Karan Rawal and I were both surprised. He brought the required intensity to the character of an obsessive lover. The character is a creep with grey shades who derives sadistic pleasure from troubling people. That came across very well during his audition.

I then realized that people would love to see Sonakshi and Zaheer pitted against each other rather than being together. That was the idea, and we are very happy with the casting, which happened quite unexpectedly.

The other catchy aspect of the film is its title, which is also a classic song from the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Darr (1993). Tell us how you locked the title. Also, was it difficult to secure the title rights? Not really. We were looking for a suitable title. Since it’s the story of an obsessive person, one of the names that came to our minds was Darr. However, it was Zaheer who told us that he had narrated the film’s story to a friend, and she suggested the title Tu Hai Meri Kiran.

As you rightly said, even we thought that we might not get the rights. But we were pleasantly surprised when we approached IMPPA (Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association) and discovered that the title had not been registered by anyone!

The title works because it has strong recall value, but the film has nothing to do with Darr. It is neither similar to Darr nor a spin-off. It’s a completely different film, though the title gives you the vibe of a story revolving around an obsessive stalker.

Nowadays, remixes of old classics are in vogue. Did you consider acquiring the rights to the song ‘Tu Hai Meri Kiran’ from Darr? No. As I said, there are no similarities between the two films, and I don’t want people to compare them. We chose the title because the song ‘Tu Hai Meri Kiran’ has been strongly etched in people’s minds for years. We felt that the title itself was enough to give audiences an idea of what our film is about, without drawing direct comparisons. Hence, we didn’t acquire the rights to any song.

Globally, there has been a rise in films featuring dark and twisted themes, and many of them are working big time. The success of Obsession (2026) is a major example. Do you feel the timing is just right for Tu Hai Meri Kiran?

When I received the script, I liked it because it was different from the kind of films we usually make. As time passed, almost everything working in theatres was about obsessive lovers!

Obsession was released when we were completing our post-production. The film was a huge success, and we felt that the timing was perfect, as Tu Hai Meri Kiran could be our answer to Obsession.

We rarely make these kinds of films in our cinema. I hope people turn up in large numbers because the film will surely surprise them. Youngsters love stories packed with twists, and our film falls into that category. So, I believe the timing is right. Sometimes, you end up making the right film at the right time!

Tu Hai Meri Kiran releases on October 23, alongside six other films. Did you ever consider postponing its release? When I announced October 23 as the release date, only Luv Ranjan’s Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar and one more film were scheduled to release that day. Gradually, more films joined the line-up. Then Udta Teer shifted to the same date at the last minute. By then, we had already begun our promotional campaign, so pulling back made no sense.

There have been instances where a small film has worked despite clashing with three big films. That happens when the content connects with the audience. Whichever film has better content will succeed, whether during the opening weekend or in the subsequent weeks. Hanuman Ansh was released between two big films. Yet, it managed to hold its own and make a mark. Likewise, we believe in our content.

Also, we genuinely feel that October 23 is a very good release date for our film. The other films releasing that day are mostly mid-sized or small productions. There’s no major event film clashing with us or releasing around the same time. This gives us some breathing space and allows word of mouth to build. From next month onwards, big films will release back-to-back. Had we postponed our release, we probably wouldn't have been able to bring the film to cinemas until next year.

What is the screen count for Tu Hai Meri Kiran? We are targeting a release across 500 screens with approximately 1,500 shows. Since so many films are releasing simultaneously, it’s difficult to secure screens. However, I believe that the number of screens doesn't necessarily matter.

Several films have opened on a slow note but gradually picked up, prompting theatres to increase their shows. On the other hand, many films have opened across a huge number of screens, only to collapse by Monday because the content was weak. Hence, I am hoping that our film speaks for itself and earns additional screens on merit rather than us having to push for them.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is returning to the Mumbai underworld with Police Company, an upcoming crime saga that will explore the city’s turbulent gang wars from the perspective of law enforcement. Starring Harshvardhan Rane in the lead role, the film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas nationwide on June 4, 2027.

Known for exploring the underbelly of Mumbai through films like Satya and Company, Ram Gopal Varma is revisiting familiar territory with a narrative that shifts the focus from gangsters to the police officers who confronted them. In Police Company, Harshvardhan Rane will portray Daya Nayak, the Mumbai police encounter specialist whose operations became a significant part of the city’s underworld history.

Inspired by true events and real-life police officers who operated during the late 1990s and early 2000s, the film will delve into the functioning of Mumbai’s encounter squad during a particularly volatile period. The narrative is expected to explore the circumstances, aggressive policing tactics and high-stakes operations that shaped the battle against organised crime in the financial capital.

The film will revisit an era when gang-related violence and the underworld’s influence formed a significant part of Mumbai’s crime landscape. According to the film’s announcement, the story will trace the operations through which the encounter squad neutralised around 300 gangsters, eventually dismantling the underworld’s terror network in the city. By placing law enforcement at the centre of the narrative, Police Company aims to offer a different perspective on a chapter that has frequently inspired crime dramas in Hindi cinema.

Alongside Harshvardhan Rane, Police Company features Fardeen Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Paresh Rawal, Saurabh Shukla, Makarand Deshpande and Ashwini Kalsekar in pivotal roles. The ensemble brings together several established performers, including actors who have previously been associated with Ram Gopal Varma’s distinctive brand of crime cinema.

The casting also marks a creative reunion for several veteran actors whose work has contributed to Varma’s crime-film legacy over the decades. For much of the past decade, whenever Hindi cinema discovered a successful genre, the instinct was understandably to make it bigger. Romances became glossier, action films became louder, and spy films steadily evolved into enormous spectacles filled with international missions, elaborate stunts and heroes capable of taking on entire armies.

Ayushmann Khurrana's career has usually moved in the opposite direction. Instead of asking how a familiar genre can become bigger, some of his most successful films have asked a more interesting question: what happens if you put a completely unexpected protagonist or problem inside it?

With Udta Teer, Ayushmann may now be applying that philosophy to one of Hindi cinema's most commercially attractive contemporary genres: the spy movie.

The basic idea itself announces that this isn't business as usual. Ayushmann plays a Pakistani spy, but the complication is deliciously unusual: he loses his memory. Suddenly, the man who is supposed to know everybody else's secrets is struggling with the most fundamental mystery of all: his own identity. The trailer consequently treats espionage not merely as an excuse for action but as the foundation for comedy, mistaken identity, satire and chaos. This is classic Ayushmann territory, but there is an important distinction.

Ayushmann hasn't simply spent his career choosing unconventional subjects. He has repeatedly taken recognisable Hindi-film genres and altered the way the protagonist is allowed to behave within them.

Consider the romantic comedy. When Ayushmann made Vicky Donor, the central romantic hero wasn't defined by the usual obstacle of family status, an ex-lover or parental opposition. He was a sperm donor trying to navigate romance, secrecy and an unconventional profession.

With Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, the traditional question of whether the boy and girl would get married was replaced by a far more intimate complication surrounding male sexual performance. Yet the treatment remained accessible, humorous and deeply rooted in family dynamics.

Bala took a familiar story about romance and self-confidence and placed premature baldness at its centre. Dream Girl transformed a comedy of mistaken identities into something even more bizarre through a man whose female voice creates a parallel persona desired by multiple strangers.

Then came Andhadhun, where even the protagonist's relationship with the truth became slippery. Ayushmann's apparently blind pianist wasn't the conventional morally uncomplicated hero Hindi thrillers had conditioned audiences to expect.

The pattern becomes difficult to ignore. Ayushmann does not necessarily reject mainstream genres. He seems to enjoy entering them through the side door. That makes Udta Teer particularly intriguing because few Hindi-film genres currently carry as many established conventions as the spy film.

The contemporary cinematic spy is usually hyper-competent. He remembers licence plates, faces, codes, weapons, escape routes and confidential information with machine-like precision. His appeal comes partly from the fantasy that he is always three steps ahead of everybody else. Udta Teer appears to begin by taking away exactly that advantage. Ayushmann's spy cannot even completely depend on his own memory.

It is a small creative inversion with potentially enormous comic possibilities. Instead of asking audiences to marvel at how much the hero knows, the film can derive its entertainment from everything he doesn't. Instead of an invincible secret agent controlling his surroundings, the protagonist can find himself responding to a world that knows more about him than he does.

That reversal also happens to play directly into one of Ayushmann's most effective qualities as a performer. He is exceptionally comfortable playing men who do not have control of the room. Across his career, his characters have panicked, lied badly, been humiliated in front of their families, worried about what society thinks of them, battled insecurities and occasionally found themselves trapped in situations they cannot possibly explain without making matters worse.

For another kind of star, appearing constantly in control might be essential to preserving the hero image. Ayushmann's screen persona has frequently benefited from losing control. And that may be exactly what makes his entry into the spy space interesting.

The genre does not need another Ayushmann Khurrana pretending to be somebody's version of a conventional action star. It becomes potentially far more distinctive when the genre itself bends around what Ayushmann does naturally.

Indian audiences have seen several different interpretations of espionage in recent years, but the broad popular image remains connected to danger, patriotism, intelligence agencies and large-scale action. Udta Teer appears willing to retain the stakes while removing some of the solemnity.

The result could be the emergence of something Hindi cinema has rarely attempted at this scale: the genuinely mainstream spy patriotic comedy where the central joke isn't that the protagonist is incompetent, but that circumstances have robbed a potentially capable spy of the one thing every agent requires - certainty about who he is.

That is also why Ayushmann's casting seems less like an actor being inserted into a genre and more like the genre being recalibrated around an actor. This has been one of the fascinating constants of his career.

He doesn't necessarily reinvent genres by demolishing their rules. He does it by introducing one disruptive variable.

If Udta Teer succeeds in doing the same, Ayushmann Khurrana won't simply have entered the spy genre.

He may once again have done something that has quietly defined his most interesting work: entered a familiar Bollywood genre, rearranged its rules and walked out leaving behind a version that looks distinctly his own.

Actor Suniel Shetty has expressed concern over the firing incident involving Tiger Shroff in Mumbai’s Juhu area. Speaking on the sidelines of the naming ceremony of the ‘Bappi Lahiri Marg’, Shetty said the incident should not have happened and stressed the need for greater safety.

Tiger was reportedly targeted on the evening of October 18 while leaving a football ground in his car in Juhu. Unidentified assailants on a motorcycle allegedly fired multiple rounds at his vehicle. Tiger escaped without gunshot injuries, although he reportedly sustained minor injuries from gunpowder and broken glass. His driver was also injured in the incident.

Reacting to the incident, Shetty said, “The whole world loves Tiger and Jackie Dada, and if something like this can happen to him, it could happen to anyone. It shouldn't have happened.” Suniel Shetty says Tiger is focused on sports and fitness Shetty also spoke about Tiger’s lifestyle, pointing out that the actor has remained focused on sports and exercise. He said, “Tiger is so focused on sports and exercise; I don’t know why this occurred—it shouldn't have. It is so, so important for us to stay safe.”

The actor also referred to his long-standing friendship with Tiger’s father, Jackie Shroff, and said he hoped the situation would be resolved. “For me, Jackie Dada is a childhood friend, and I just hope everything turns out well,” he said.

Shetty further expressed relief that Tiger himself was safe following the firing. “I’m also relieved that Tiger himself is fine—it was his driver who got hurt, and he is currently recovering,” he added. Three suspects detained in connection with the firing The incident triggered an investigation by the Mumbai Police. By October 19, three suspects were detained or arrested in Kota, Rajasthan, while allegedly attempting to flee by train. Reports have suggested that those detained include individuals from Haryana and Bihar.

A social media claim attempting to link the incident to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has also surfaced, although the connection has not been verified by the police. The investigation into the motive and those behind the attack is continuing.

Actor Shefali Shah has spoken about her experience with therapy, recalling how she first sought professional help after struggling to manage certain aspects of her life. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actor discussed her journey with mental health professionals, the importance of finding the right therapist and how therapy has helped her recognise emotional lows before they become overwhelming.

Shefali, who recently made her debut as an author with The Audacity of Being: A Sort-of Memoir, published by Bloomsbury on October 1, 2026, has been discussing personal experiences as part of conversations around her book. During the interview, she explained that her decision to seek therapy did not stem from one major incident but from a growing realisation that she needed professional guidance. Shefali Shah recalls how she first sought professional help Shefali traced her first experience with a mental health professional to a visit to her children's school, where a psychiatrist had spoken about attention deficit disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD and ADHD). At the time, Shefali believed her son might have the conditions and approached the psychiatrist with her concerns.

Recalling the incident, she said, “My children's school had a psychiatrist who came and spoke about ADD and ADHD. So I went to her one day saying, ‘My son definitely has ADD, ADHD, everything.’ She asked me to bring him in, but after meeting him, she said he was fine. Then she asked me, ‘What is your problem?’”

Shefali said the exchange eventually became a joke between them. However, she later approached the psychiatrist again when she was struggling with sleep.

“I remember once going to her saying that I cannot sleep. I need something to sleep. She asked me how long it had been since I had slept, and I said around 22 hours. I had come from the gym and hadn't eaten anything,” she recalled.

The experience prompted Shefali to consider that she might need help managing her own concerns. “I just thought that I wasn't equipped to handle it,” she said, explaining that she gradually began seeing the psychiatrist. “I have to go to a dermatologist” Shefali said her decision to continue therapy was not necessarily linked to a single life-changing event. Instead, she came to understand that professional support could help her navigate difficult periods.

“I don't remember if anything happened which was earth-shattering. But things happen in your life and, at some point, I hope people realise that you need a third person who's a professional, who knows this better than me,” she said.

Comparing mental health support with seeking treatment for a physical condition, Shefali added, “I can't keep putting a cream on an allergy rash. I have to go to a dermatologist.”

She also acknowledged that, initially, she would turn to therapy mainly when she was going through a crisis, such as a period when work was scarce and she was feeling depressed. After some years, however, she felt that her existing approach was no longer helping her in the same way. Shefali Shah on finding the right therapist Shefali eventually met Dr Vishal Sawant after someone introduced them. She said one of the things that stood out about their first interaction was that he did not rely on her previous assessments to define her experience.

“When I told him what I thought was happening and showed him my report, he said, ‘I don't want to look at it.’ He never labelled me, which was fantastic,” she said.

According to Shefali, the therapist helped her understand that people experience emotional highs and lows differently, and that she might feel certain emotions more intensely than others.

“He said everybody goes through a low phase or a high phase. You might feel it more acutely than somebody else. That's how it started, and he's been a huge support, somebody who's made my life so much simpler,” she said.

Shefali added that therapy has gradually become less about seeking help only when something goes wrong. There are times when she meets her therapist simply because she feels the need to check in.

She recalled one of his early goals for her: “One of the first things he told me was that he wanted to reach a point where I didn't need him.”

Learning to recognise emotional lows Shefali said she has become more aware of her emotional state and can increasingly recognise when she is beginning to feel low. While she is unsure whether she has reached the point her therapist hoped for, she believes the process has helped her develop a better understanding of herself.

Discussing the role of therapy amid the pressures of everyday life, she explained that a therapist does not necessarily tell someone what decisions to make. Instead, the process can help a person understand their situation and decide how to respond.

“This person is not the one who will tell you what to do. He will just tell you, ‘This is what it is. Now you figure what you want to do.’ You have to choose your way, which is what you need anyway in life,” she said.

Shefali added that gaining perspective can sometimes mean stepping back emotionally and assessing a situation before deciding whether it deserves further attention.

Her account highlights how her understanding of therapy has evolved over time, from seeking help during difficult phases to developing greater awareness of her emotional well-being. Through her experience, the actor has also underlined the value of professional support in navigating life's pressures.

Farhan Akhtar’s Shah Rukh Khan starrer Don: The Chase Begins Again (2006) completed 20 years today. The film was a remake of Chandra Barot’s Don (1978), starring Amitabh Bachchan. Produced by Excel Entertainment and also starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Om Puri, Boman Irani, Arjun Rampal and Isha Koppikar, the action flick became a success at the box office. It was a major moment for mainstream Hindi cinema as sequels weren’t a regular feature back then.

Even after two decades, Don doesn’t appear old. A major reason for this is the visuals provided by cinematographer KU Mohanan. Interestingly, this was the first time he had worked in a mainstream commercial film. Mohanan revealed that there were apprehensions because of this before he came on board in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama.

He said, “At that time, I was mainly doing advertising work. I was quite big in advertising films. Maybe, that’s why Farhan got an idea about my work. But he knew I hadn’t done any big feature film before. He was a little apprehensive also in the beginning if I would be able to pull it off. This was a huge film. He expressed his concerns and asked me if I would like to do it. I said I will try because even I was not very sure about myself. But I took it as a challenge and accepted the film.”

Challenges of shooting action sequences

Mohanan faced that challenge of shooting high-octane action sequences for the first time. “It was very challenging,” he said. “But we had a good team, like the second unit director and the action team. The main person was from Australia. He had worked in many Hollywood and international films. We really wanted to make it look world class. Most of the action scenes were done in real. The chase sequences were done in that speed. There wasn’t too much of cheating. Certain things which we couldn’t do in real were done with a little VFX. At that time, VFX was not very popular. It wasn’t easy to do VFX.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s daredevilry made things easier

Mohanan shared that SRK made things easier and he was amazed by his commitment towards shooting action scenes. “He will do anything you tell him,” he recalled. “He used to get very excited for action, even at times when I used to get scared. I was sitting behind him in the car with the hand-held camera during a chase scene. He was driving the car and hitting the water barrel that was coming on the windscreen and then hitting a road roller. Everything is done by him. There was no duplicate.”

One particular scene involving fire astonished Mohanan about the kind of risks Khan was ready to take. “There is also a scene where the car is going through a fireball. That car is driven by Shah Rukh Khan. It wasn’t a stunt double. There was a camera mounted in front of the car, so you can see the actor. He did it twice. He is the greatest star I have worked with. He is a such a great, gentle and warm human being. He is a very hardworking actor and very supportive to everybody. He is a dream to work with. More than a star, I am a huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan as a person,” he said.

Don started a good professional bond between Mohanan and SRK, which continued in various projects in the years to come. “Shah Rukh is very fond of me maybe because of the quality of work I come with. He really appreciated the way I worked in Don. That’s the reason I did Raees (2017) and Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017). After that, I did innumerable TV commercials with him,” he recalled.

The end twist played a major role in Don’s box office success

Interestingly, KU Mohanan is a big fan of the original Don. It released when he was a school student in Kerala. He was glad to know that Farhan Akhtar’s remake threw in a major twist in the end. “It was so exciting for me to re-do that film as a cinematographer,” he said. “When I read the script and saw the twist, I felt it was very interesting. Otherwise, what is the point of making it exactly like before? That’s a great twist that Farhan brought in. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why the film worked at the box office. We had a very strong team along with the great vision of Farhan Akhtar. He is very supportive as a director and a great producer, along with Ritesh Sidhwani.”

Don’s international look was an effort to break the existing pattern in Bollywood back then

Don had an international look to it. Mohanan said that this is what they always aimed for. “We were trying to break the regular pattern of Bollywood cinema existing at that time,” he said. “Anyways, I am exposed to international cinema. Actually more than Hollywood, I am exposed to other kind of cinema – the cinema from Europe, Japan, etc. So, I have a different kind of way of looking at things. Maybe that worked in the film actually. That’s why it looks different.”

Mohanan made it clear that despite taking inspiration from international cinema, his aim was never to copy anything from foreign films. “You can get inspired by someone else’s work. You can get influenced by people who worked before us. It’s like carrying a baton forward. I tried to make it look very unique and our own. To an extent, I think, I succeeded in doing Don. It wasn’t a copy of Hollywood. But it also wasn’t like the regular Hindi cinema of that period,” he said.

The green colour palette

One can easily notice the green colour palette to the film right from the onset. Sharing the thought behind this, Mohanan said, “When we did the camera and look test, Farhan, myself, the production designer Aradhana Seth and the costume designer Aki Narula discussed decided that we will go with one particular colour palette. It’s a collaborative work, actually. We also decided that we will cut off certain type of a colour. For example, there are no warm colours in the film; it’s a very cold film. You have shades of blue, green and black. We thought this looks like a good colour palette for the film. Otherwise, Hindi cinema was not doing any colour palette at that time. There wasn’t a properly paletted film. It was all haywire. There is only one song (‘Yeh Mera Dil Pyaar Ka Deewana’) where there is a lot of warmth, like red, orange, etc.”

Don started a healthy working relationship between KU Mohanan and Excel Entertainment

Don was a pleasurable experience for KU Mohanan. It became a start to a long collaboration with Excel Entertainment, with movies like, Talaash: The Answer Lies Within (2012), Fukrey (2013) and Raees. He laughingly said, “Most of my filmography is produced by Excel Entertainment. They are very good producers. They are very straightforward and very quality conscious. That’s the reason I did most of my films with them. Ritesh Sidhwani is a very great producer.”

Surprisingly, Mohanan wasn’t a part of Don’s sequel Don 2: The Chase Continues (2011). When pointed this out, he said, “I was busy with some other work actually.”

In recent times, several Hindi films, including Dhurandhar, Border 2, Fighter, Sky Force, Article 370, Tiger 3, etc, have reportedly been denied a release in certain Middle Eastern markets. However, the upcoming Ayushmann Khurrana-Sara Ali Khan starrer Udta Teer has now faced a roadblock closer to home, in the neighbouring country of Nepal.

Bollywood Hungama has learned that Udta Teer has not been granted permission for public screening in Nepal. Bollywood Hungama is in possession of a copy of the official order, which was communicated to the makers by Bishal Bhandari, Section Officer, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of Nepal.

The letter further stated that permission was denied as the film falls under the subject matter prohibited by Section 5(3) of the Film (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act, 2026 B.S.

The letter was issued on Ashwin 30, 2083, as per Nepal's Bikram Sambat calendar, which corresponds to Friday, October 16, 2026, in the Gregorian calendar.

Udta Teer stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, the late Mukul Dev and several others. Written and directed by Akash A Kaushik, the film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla and Apoorva Mehta's Dharma Productions, along with Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain's Sikhya Entertainment.

Mumbai witnessed a shooting incident in suburban Juhu on Sunday evening, October 18, after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at Tiger Shroff’s car. Following the incident, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the actor’s residence late at night to check on his well-being and review the situation. The visit came as the Mumbai Police and Crime Branch began investigating the attack and searching for those responsible.

Visuals shared by news agency ANI and circulated on social media showed Eknath Shinde meeting Shroff at his residence. According to preliminary reports, the incident took place at around 7 pm on Sunday near Pushpa Park in Juhu, when Shroff was returning from a football session. The assailants reportedly arrived on a motorcycle and fired multiple rounds at the actor’s BMW. Shroff is said to have escaped without sustaining any bullet injuries, although the vehicle was hit during the firing.

The Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch subsequently cordoned off the area where the firing took place. Investigators reportedly recovered empty bullet shells from the scene, while forensic teams were mobilised to examine the evidence. The investigation is also focusing on CCTV footage from the surrounding area to establish the sequence of events and identify those involved. Reports indicate that the police are examining available evidence and pursuing leads as the search continues across the city.

Shortly after the incident, a message circulating on social media allegedly claimed responsibility in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate. However, the claim remains unverified. Senior police officials have reportedly indicated that all angles are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation, and no conclusion has been established regarding the identity or motive of the assailants.

Actor-producer and writer Harman Baweja has reflected on Bhagwat: Chapter One – Raakshas as the crime thriller completes a year. Looking back at the film, Baweja spoke about bringing Arshad Warsi and Jitendra Kumar, popularly known as Jeetu, together and the contrasting characters they portrayed.

Directed by Akshay Shere, Bhagwat: Chapter One – Raakshas was backed by Jio Studios and released on ZEE5. The film follows Inspector Vishwas Bhagwat, played by Arshad Warsi, as he investigates the disappearance of a young woman in a small town in Uttar Pradesh. His investigation eventually leads him to a larger trail of missing women and a man concealing a darker side.

For Baweja, the casting of Warsi and Jeetu was one of the aspects that stood out about the film. Warsi played an investigating officer, while Jeetu took on a darker role that was different from some of his more familiar screen appearances.

“Looking back at Bhagwat a year later, I think one of the most interesting things about the film was bringing Arshad and Jeetu together. They both have such distinct identities as actors, and asking them to step into characters that audiences hadn't quite seen them play before was exciting,” Baweja said.

He also spoke about the approach taken by both actors to their respective roles. “Arshad brought a certain depth and honesty to Inspector Bhagwat, while Jeetu explored a much darker space, which was very different from the characters people have come to associate him with. What made it work was the way they both understood their characters and brought them to life,” he added. Harman Baweja on Bhagwat's audience response According to Baweja, audiences responded positively to the pairing of Warsi and Jeetu, and critics also appreciated their performances. “Their pairing was received well by audiences, and it was encouraging to see their performances appreciated by both audiences and critics,” he said.

Baweja also acknowledged Jio Studios' and ZEE5's role in taking the film to audiences beyond its initial release. “With Jio Studios backing the film and its strong performance on ZEE5, it was encouraging to see the story find its audience beyond its initial release as well,” he said.

Reflecting on the film from a producer and filmmaker's perspective, Baweja said that seeing a casting decision connect with viewers was particularly satisfying. “As a filmmaker and producer, it's always satisfying when a casting choice you believe in comes together on screen and the audience connects with the vision. A year later, that's something I look back at with a lot of satisfaction,” he said.

Baweja Studios has continued to work across genres, with projects including Mrs and Haq. Its upcoming slate includes Dil Ka Darwaaza Kholo Na Darling and Jugaadu, while Captain India is currently in production.
