Kartik Aaryan launches Chandu Champion trailer in Gwalior days after losing two relatives in Mumbai’s hoarding collapse: “Kaafi kuch chal raha hai meri life mein…”

Kartik Aaryan launches Chandu Champion trailer in Gwalior days after losing two relatives in Mumbai’s hoarding collapse: “Kaafi kuch chal raha hai meri life mein…”

Kartik Aaryan, in a display of resilience mirroring the spirit of his upcoming film Chandu Champion, launched the movie's trailer in his hometown Gwalior on Saturday. This event came just days after Aaryan suffered a devastating personal loss – his relatives Manoj Chansoria and Anita Chansoria were among the 16 victims of a tragic hoarding collapse in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area during thunderstorm and rains. Their bodies were recovered two days later, and Aaryan had been present for their funeral. Yet, he stood alongside director Kabir Khan and producer Sajid Nadiadwala for the trailer launch in Gwalior.

“This is a dream come true moment for me,” he shared with the cheering crowd of over a thousand at the Captain Roop Singh Cricket stadium. “This is where I dreamt of becoming an actor, and to bring the toughest film of my career here is incredibly special.”

He acknowledged the emotional strain, stating, “Kaafi kuch chal raha hai meri life mein (a lot is going on in my life),” but emphasized the importance of moving forward, “the show must go on.”

Chandu Champion, directed by Kabir Khan, is a biographical drama inspired by the life of India's first Paralympics swimmer, Murlikant Petkar. Aaryan takes on the titular role, portraying Petkar's journey that undoubtedly demanded immense physical and mental transformation. Khan co-wrote the screenplay with Sumit Arora and Rohit Shukre, while Sajid Nadiadwala serves as producer under the Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment banner.

The trailer throws us into 1967, two years after a war injury knocks Chandu unconscious. We then embark on an emotional rollercoaster. A flashback reveals a young Chandu declaring his wrestling dreams to his teacher. Met with taunts and the mocking nickname "Chandu Champion," we see the spark that ignites his determination. This glimpse into his past hints at a journey of overcoming challenges and erasing that derisive label, setting the stage for a powerful story.

The film's release is slated for June 14, marking Aaryan's first silver screen appearance of 2024. He is also gearing up for the release of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 later this year. EXCLUSIVE: Dharmesh Darshan goes down memory lane on his birthday; opens up on his memorable birthday bash with best friends Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar; also says “Akshay Kumar made a surprise visit. So sweet of him!”

EXCLUSIVE: Dharmesh Darshan goes down memory lane on his birthday; opens up on his memorable birthday bash with best friends Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar; also says “Akshay Kumar made a surprise visit. So sweet of him!”

What is the similarity between Vicky Kaushal and Dharmesh Darshan? Both celebrate their birthdays today. The latter, who turns 55, began his career as a director at the young age of 24 with the action romantic entertainer Lootere (1993). His second film, Raja Hindustani (1996) emerged as one of the biggest hits of Indian cinema. Dhadkan (2000), meanwhile, is a cult classic and is remembered today for its music, plot and unconventional casting of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Shilpa Shetty. Last year, Bollywood Hungama broke the news that Dharmesh Darshan has been offered Dhadkan 2. The news spread like wildfire, which only proved how that film continues to be loved. It also proved that Dharmesh Darshan’s popularity is intact.

Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Dharmesh Darshan about his birthday plans. He smiled and said, “There are no plans. Next year, I’ll surely party (laughs).”

At a time when the industry is going through a tough time and action films are facing fatigue, a romantic musical like Dhadkan 2 can prove to be a success, just like the first part. When asked if he’d like to get back into direction, he said, “If cinema needs me, I will always be there, that too with age being still on my side and with my positivity.”

He continued, "As for Dhadkan 2, it may or may not be a sequel to one of my timeless classics or it may be an absolutely fresh take on modern cinema by a newly reinvented Dĥarmesh Sĥeela Darsĥan.”

We then asked him about memorable birthdays of his life, especially the ones celebrated with the members of the film fraternity. Dharmesh Darshan revealed, “I was never a show-off. But I remember this one birthday of mine when the producer of my film threw a surprise party for me. My best friends at that point – Aditya Chopra, Karan Johar, Anil Thadani, and Manish Malhotra – surprised me by being there at that very select dinner gathering.”

He also revealed, “The other memorable party was the one that I threw at the insistence of this same producer friend. It was held close to my house in Pali Hill at Napoli By Shatranj restaurant. Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar were in attendance and Akshay Kumar made a surprise visit. So sweet of him!”

Twinkle Khanna relays Dimple Kapadia’s message to Zeenat Aman for sharing anecdote from Chhailla Babu days: “Mom says thank you for your gracious words”

Twinkle Khanna relays Dimple Kapadia’s message to Zeenat Aman for sharing anecdote from Chhailla Babu days: “Mom says thank you for your gracious words”

In a heartwarming social media exchange, veteran actress Zeenat Aman took to Instagram on Monday to express her gratitude for Dimple Kapadia's unwavering support during a challenging time in her life. Since Dimple isn't on social media, Zeenat tagged Twinkle Khanna hoping the message would reach her. Zeenat's post featured a candid picture, possibly taken on the sets of the film Chhailla Babu, and recounted a memory of Dimple's kindness.

While acknowledging Dimple's undeniable talent, Zeenat's focus was on her character. She revealed that Dimple, despite facing potential criticism herself, was one of the few who publicly stood by Zeenat during a difficult phase. This act of loyalty left a lasting impression on Zeenat, who admires Dimple's strength to this day.

Twinkle Khanna, true to her social media-savvy nature, promptly responded to Zeenat's post on behalf of her mother. She expressed appreciation for the "lovely picture" and relayed Dimple's gratitude for Zeenat's "gracious words."

Interestingly, both Zeenat and Dimple received their big breaks in Bollywood thanks to the legendary director Raj Kapoor. Dimple, at a young age, was cast in the iconic film Bobby, while Zeenat's path to stardom came through Satyam Shivam Sundaram. She wrote, “I can't recollect where this picture was taken, but it quite certainly had something to do with the film Chhailla Babu. Perhaps it's a bts shot from set. I say this because while the chairs scream "production", I'm in my own clothes not a costume. With me are the director of the film Joy Mukherjee and the effervescent Dimple Kapadia, who must have been visiting set as she was married to the lead actor.”

More importantly, Zeenat revealed a deeply personal anecdote. She disclosed that Dimple stood by her during a challenging personal phase, even facing public criticism for her support. This act of loyalty left a lasting impression on Zeenat, who expressed her admiration for Dimple's strength of character. “Dimple and I both got big career breaks thanks to Raj Kapoor. She as a teenager, when she was cast in and as Bobby. Whereas I was able to deliver a blow to my "western image" thanks to SSS (Satyam Shivam Sundaram),” she added.

She wrote, “This isn't a post about Dimple's talent though she has that in spades, it's about the little I saw of her character. During a very difficult phase in my life she was one of a mere handful of people who publicly stood by me. This despite the criticism and scrutiny of her own life that the decision invited! In those trying times she revealed to me a strength of character that I admire to date. I don't believe she is on Instagram, but perhaps @twinklerkhanna will pass on my love to her. Truly, a wave of appreciation washed over me when I found this picture some days ago.”

AR Rahman recalls his mom’s sacrifice to make his musical dreams come true; she sold her jewellery for his first recorder: “That is when I felt empowered”

Music maestro A.R. Rahman, the celebrated composer behind recent hits like Amar Singh Chamkila starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, recently shared a glimpse into his inspiring past. In a conversation with Imtiaz Ali, Mohit Chauhan, and Irshad Kamil for Netflix, Rahman spoke about his unconventional path to musical mastery.

Despite not attending college, Rahman's passion for music blossomed at a young age. “I had a lot of questions,” he recalled. “When I was 12, I was vibing with people in their 40s and 50s.” This curiosity, fueled by a touch of youthful boredom, led him on a journey of exploration, immersing himself in a vast array of musical styles. “That side was spectacular for me,” he said. “There was so much out there.”

Rahman's dedication wasn't without its challenges. When he decided to establish his own studio, financial constraints loomed large. He shared a particular memory, “When I built my studio, I didn't have money to buy an amplifier or equalizer.” The room itself was a simple set-up, with just an air conditioner, a shelf, and carpeting. “I used to be sitting there not having money to buy anything,” he described.

The turning point came thanks to a selfless act. “My first recorder came after my mom gave her jewels to be pledged,” Rahman revealed. This sacrifice empowered him, as he explained, “That is when I felt empowered. I could see my future that one moment I changed.”

Amar Singh Chamkila was released on the streaming platform on April 12 and has become one of the beloved projects for all the people associated with it. Amar Singh Chamkila was a Punjabi singer who rose to fame in the 1970s and 80s. He was known for his energetic music and often controversial lyrics, which addressed social issues and sometimes used double entendres. His tragic death at the peak of his career left a lasting impact. The 2024 biographical drama explores Chamkila's rise to fame, his struggles with criticism, and his untimely demise. Pratibha Rantta recalls auditioning in front of Aamir Khan for Laapataa Ladies; also talks about balancing roles in Laapataa Ladies and Heeramandi

Pratibha Rantta recalls auditioning in front of Aamir Khan for Laapataa Ladies; also talks about balancing roles in Laapataa Ladies and Heeramandi

Pratibha Rantta recently shared insights into her experience of auditioning for the Aamir Khan-backed Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, and juggling it with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The year has been significant for Rantta, with her performances in both projects bringing her into the spotlight and receiving widespread acclaim.

In an interview with the Indian Express, Rantta discussed how she secured her role in Laapataa Ladies within a month after her live audition with Aamir Khan. “I think within a month, everything was locked. And I was like, ‘Okay, what has just happened? Okay, please tell me.’ It was very quick. For me, it was a very quick process. Then, after that, our dialogue training workshop took place. That took a month. After that, we went on floors. Then we shot for like 45 days. Yeah, we shot for 45-50 days. That’s how it happened,” she recounted. She also reflected on Khan's involvement during filming, describing the set's atmosphere as 'magical' and noting her close friendships formed during the shoot.

Balancing between Laapataa Ladies and Heeramandi, Rantta experienced different worlds and described it as a ‘magical experience.’ She explained, “There was a big set in Heeramandi, and the approach of both characters was so different for me.” Despite the contrasts, she found common ground in the underlying emotions of her characters in both projects.

Drawing a contrast between her roles, Rantta elaborated on her character preparation, highlighting the similarities in their core motivations. “Jaya is a little reserved. She thinks a lot before taking action. But she is watching. She has four eyes because she is doing something like this. So, all that I used to keep in mind when I was preparing for Jaya’s character. But somewhere, in both, the bottom line, it was the same emotion to get that freedom that I have to do what I have to do,” she added. This dual experience has undoubtedly shaped Rantta’s growing career in Bollywood, showcasing her versatility and dedication.

Preity Zinta cheers on for Manisha Koirala and says, “more power to you” as the actress recalls shooting the stressful ‘fountain sequence’ in Heeramandi

Preity Zinta cheers on for Manisha Koirala and says, “more power to you” as the actress recalls shooting the stressful ‘fountain sequence’ in Heeramandi

Manisha Koirala is winning hearts and receiving love from all quarters for her portrayal as the manipulative yet loving Mallikajaan from the Sanjay Leela Bhansali web-series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The actress, who has also been a cancer survivor, recalled a challenging fountain sequence in the show, for which, she was plagued with doubts since she had to sit under the flowing water for almost 12 hours. While she opened up about the resilience of her body, her co-actor Preity Zinta also cheered her on and showcased her support.

For the unversed, Preity Zinta made her Hindi film debut in the film Dil Se… which featured Manisha Koirala and Shah Rukh Khan in lead roles. The actress recalled the time when she was shooting with the actress for her first film and also expressed gratitude about how Koirala made her feel extremely comfortable. In the note, Preity said, “I love you Manisha (hearts and fire emojis) I saw the show for you & you killed it (clap emojis) You are such a powerhouse of talent & an even better human being. I will never forget how lovely, welcoming & generous you were to me in Dil Se (heart-eye emoji) Thanks to you I started my film journey on such a positive note. You never made me feel I was working with a superstar & nurtured me on the shoot - always smiling, accommodating & ready for rehearsal & suggestions. You will always be Hero on & off camera. More power to you always”.

Meanwhile, Manisha Koirala had described her experience of shooting the fountain scene and had said, “The fountain sequence proved the most physically challenging. It required me to be immersed in a water fountain for over 12 hours. That tested my resilience! Even though Sanjay had thoughtfully ensured that the water was warm and clean, over the hours, the water turned muddy, (because my team members, the Cinematographer, and the art director’s team were getting into the water to work around the scene.) Every single pore in my body was soaked in that muddy water. Even though I was beyond exhaustion by the end of the shoot, I felt a deep happiness within my heart. My body had taken the stress and remained resilient. I knew I had passed a critical physical test.”

Ashutosh Rana calls current Bollywood a "Golden period" for actors like him: “I hope to get lots of work and play different characters”

Veteran actor Ashutosh Rana believes the current era of Bollywood is a golden age for actors like him who embrace diverse roles. Rana, who recently starred in the OTT investigative drama series Murder in Mahim, has carved a niche for himself by portraying complex characters, often villains, with captivating nuance.

In a PTI report, the 56-year-old actor expressed his enthusiasm for the evolving landscape of Indian cinema. "I feel there is a lot left in Ashutosh Rana. The actor in Ashutosh Rana is like a child who has just started walking and is taking baby steps. There is a lot to come. Why I think this way is because I started with films which were called off-beat cinema and that have become mainstream cinema now."

He further added, "For the actors like me, it is a golden period.” Elaborating on the same, he asserted, “I hope to get lots of work and play different characters. I want to play Chanakya on screen, Raavan, Vivekanand and Krishna. There are so many characters who are engraved in our minds like Gabbar (from Sholay)."

After Hugh Grant and Asif Kapadia, Hrithik Roshan slams Apple's "Crush" ad; calls it "Sad and ignorant"

After Hugh Grant and Asif Kapadia, Hrithik Roshan slams Apple's "Crush" ad; calls it "Sad and ignorant"

Apple's latest advertisement, titled "Crush," has sparked a debate online, attracting criticism from celebrities and the public alike. Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan recently added his voice to the growing discontent, calling the ad "sad and ignorant" on his Instagram stories.

The commercial features a hydraulic press crushing various creative tools like musical instruments, paint cans, and gaming consoles. While Apple intended to showcase the thinness and power of the new iPad by contrasting it with bulkier creative devices, the message backfired.

Hrithik Roshan joins British actor Hugh Grant and filmmaker Asif Kapadia who previously expressed disapproval of the ad. Grant called it "The destruction of the human experience. Courtesy of Silicon Valley," while Kapadia criticized it for symbolizing how "tech companies squeeze" artists.

The ad, launched by Apple CEO Tim Cook earlier this month, aimed to highlight the iPhone's processing power and sleek design. However, the focus on crushing creative tools left many viewers feeling that the ad disrespected artistic expression and traditional creative methods. Following the negative reception, Apple reportedly decided to pull the commercial from television airing.

Coming back to Hrithik, on the professional front, he was last seen in Fighter, a Siddharth Anand directorial. Co-starring Deepika Padukone, it was released this year in January. Now, he is busy with shooting his next War 2. Helmed by Ayan Mukerji, it will be the sixth installment of YRF’s Spy Universe followed by Pathaan, Tiger 3, War, Tiger Zinda Hai, and Ek Tha Tiger. The upcoming film will also star Kiara Advani and Jr NTR.

Sarfarosh’s 25th anniversary screening: “I get messages on Facebook that ‘Tum asli Gulfam Hasan ho’; Sabse zyada khushi ki baat yeh hai ki Pakistan mein film bahut pasand ki jaati hai” – Naseeruddin Shah

11:14 AM 0
Sarfarosh’s 25th anniversary screening: “I get messages on Facebook that ‘Tum asli Gulfam Hasan ho’; Sabse zyada khushi ki baat yeh hai ki Pakistan mein film bahut pasand ki jaati hai” – Naseeruddin Shah

The 25th anniversary screening of Sarfarosh (1999) was held by Radio Nasha on May 10 at a multiplex in Mumbai and was attended by the team of the film in full force. Before the screening, Aamir Khan, Sonali Bendre, Naseeruddin Shah, Mukesh Rishi and director John Matthew Matthan came on stage and talked about interesting trivia of the film with RJ Divya Solgama.

Aamir Khan was asked what made him sign a film like this, which was a bit different from his other choices in the 90s. Aamir explained, “I was moved by the story. Also, it had an unusual plot. Usually, in mainstream cinema, we don’t get to see such films. It talks about some important issues but it does that sensitively. Hence, I was more than excited. I was sitting in a relaxed manner when I heard the narration.”

Aamir then revealed that he had doubts about whether John Matthew Matthan would be able to pull off the film, “John is an English name and he wanted to make a Hindi film. Also, he was an ad filmmaker who makes 30-second films. And he was attempting a three-hour movie. Hindi aati hai ki nahin yeh sab mujhe doubt tha! But within 15 minutes of the narration, my pose changed. I became very alert and fell in love with the material. I told John, ‘Script badi acchi hai. Tune aaj tak film direct nahin ki hai. Tu direct kar paayega ki nahin woh dekh lete hai’. And John did a wonderful job.”

Was doing Sarfarosh a risk for the superstar? Aamir answered, “All my films have been risky. I liked Dangal’s (2016) script and many wondered how I would pull off the role of an old man with a paunch. They said ‘Your audience wants to see you as a handsome man’. Even with Taare Zameen Par (2007), some people had doubts. It’s not that I was not nervous. With every film, I get nervous. But I was not nervous enough not to do the film. I was nervous but I was excited. Also, we had a great team of actors. It was a great opportunity to work with Naseer, Sonali, Mukesh ji and everyone.”

Naseeruddin Shah, who played the villain, raised laughs as he said, “Even today, I get messages on Facebook that ‘Tum asli Gulfam Hasan ho’!” Aamir laughed and remarked, “Aapka kaam itna accha tha ki log confuse ho jaate hai.”

Naseeruddin then remarked, “Sabse zyada khushi ki baat yeh hai ki Pakistan mein Sarfarosh bahut pasand ki jaati hai.” He turned towards Aamir and asked him, “Were you aware?” Aamir replied in the negative.

Naseeruddin Shah continued, “People in Pakistan love the film a lot. Though I haven’t been there in a long time. But earlier, whenever I visited the country, Sarfaorsh was always mentioned. I was shocked. Mujhe laga tha joote maarenge mujhe (laughs)!”

When asked how he came on board, he stated, “John narrated the story to me. Those were the days when mobile phones had just come in the market. John had a cell phone and it would keep ringing every 2 minutes! Yet, I was very gripped. I knew that it’d be an important film and an intelligent thriller. I also liked the revelation of my character. And I knew that the film would succeed. I was also sure that I’d have fun singing in Jagjit Singh’s voice (smiles).”

EXPLOSIVE: Deepak Tijori BLASTS CBFC for “TORTURING” him during the certification process of Tipppsy and for making him run pillar-to-post for delivery of censor certificate: “They also blackmailed me; they misread ‘pennies’ as ‘penis’”

Deepak Tijori’s thriller Tipppsy was released yesterday in cinemas. The director heaved a sigh of relief to know that the film made it on time. The last few days were harrowing for him thanks to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to him on this aspect. He started by saying, “I was blackmailed. I was tortured. If it can happen to me, I don’t know how many people must be going through it.”

When asked to explain in detail, he began to narrate his ordeal, “The cut-off date to apply for the certificate is 30 days. But I had applied 23 days before my film’s release that too because of my agent. He made a mistake. Nevertheless, I do agree that I was late. 20 days before the release of the film, I sent a message to the RO (Regional Officer). I informed him that the publicity campaign had begun and requested that our screening happen on time. The RO promptly replied, assuring me that somebody from the CBFC office would connect with me and that the screening would be arranged”.

He continued, “I didn’t get any call. I kept waiting. I tried to get the information from my agent but to no avail.”

Deepak Tijori then said, “4 days before the release, on Monday, I called the RO and begged him. He said, ‘We’ll do the screening tomorrow’, that is, Tuesday. But my delivery to the distributor was scheduled for Wednesday. I asked him, ‘Why can’t you watch the film today, sir?’. He told me, ‘No, Deepak ji, we can’t see today. We have other work to do’. When I said that my delivery might not happen on time, he replied, ‘That’s not our problem’.”

He further said, “Later, I got a call, confirming the screening for Tuesday morning. I reach the office early morning. There was a committee of 4 people – 2 men and 2 women. I consciously ensured that my film was for the whole family. I ensured that there was no profanity, kissing scene and sex scene in the movie. The actresses do wear bikinis but it’s something very common. Also, I didn’t ask for a ‘U’ certificate. I asked for a U/A certificate.”

Deepak Tijori stated, “After the screening, I was invited, not to discuss. Instead, they blackmailed me – either you accept our cuts or you go for an ‘A’ certificate. I asked, ‘Can I have a say?’. He replied, ‘No, you cannot discuss with us. We four of us have already discussed it. Are you trying to tell us that we are not competent enough?’. I replied, ‘I am not. But please listen to my point of view at least’.”

When asked about the cuts, he replied, “There’s a dialogue of a doctor telling the girls ‘Tum kahan kahan munh maarti ho?’. This dialogue was even there in the trailer and it was passed with a clean U/A rating. But they asked me to remove it from the film. They also asked me to remove the words ‘blue film’ and ‘porn’. I don’t understand why such words should be removed’.”

Talking about the other cuts, he said, “They also had issues with the rave party song where the characters are consuming chillum. It’s a substance associated with Bholenath. So, in the background of the song, the music director had added the words ‘Bhole Shiv Shankar’. And this song ‘Kheecho Re’ is already out. The CBFC members asked me to reduce the song by 50% and that I should remove every shot of them smoking up and the words associated with Lord Shiva. I reasoned that my song would get distorted.”

There were more cuts asked, “They also pointed out two cleavage shots which they felt was too much. I was asked to blur it.” One of these cleavage shots is of Natasha Suri and is from a scene where the other actresses are also sitting by the pool wearing cleavage-bearing bikini tops. But only Natasha’s cleavage was asked to be censored.

Deepak Tijori continued, “One of the members told me that the word ‘penis’ is there in the subtitles. Now, I have checked the subtitles twice. I told him that such a word is not present in the subtitles. The man arrogantly maintained that the said word was there in the subtitles. He also said that he’ll mention about it in the report. I assured them that I’d remove it from the subtitles and I again asked if I could talk about the other modifications asked. But they refused.”

The problems didn’t end here. Deepak Tijori revealed, “I wanted the CC (censor certificate) for my delivery. On Tuesday, the screening was over at 12:30 pm. I requested the CBFC officials to give the cut statement immediately. I also assured that I’ll submit the modified version the same day in the evening. This is because, for certain cinema halls, you need to submit hard disks as well; not everybody gets the film through satellite. They assured me that I’ll get the list in my mail.”

Puzzled about the male genitalia reference in the subtitles, Deepak Tijori reached his office to see where this word was mentioned. He said, “You won’t believe it. The word was ‘pennies’, meaning loose change. And he read it as ‘penis’! These are the kind of people who are checking our films and sitting in committees.”

Before leaving the CBFC office, Deepak Tijori met the RO. He exulted, “I met the RO. He assured me that he’ll give me the certificate on Wednesday morning. I was happy to know that. But I didn’t get the cut list. I made nearly 10 phone calls the same day. I said, ‘Give me a handwritten reply in case you don’t have someone to type’. They cut the call citing ’10 minute baad call karo’ and ‘5 minute baad call karo’. Since it’s a government office, it shuts at 6:30 pm.”

He added, “The next day, I called the office at 10 am. I was told that the officials are yet to arrive. At 10:20 am, the RO finally came on the phone and he said he’ll send the statement in the afternoon. I said, ‘If I get the list in the afternoon, it’ll be evening by the time I get the certificate’. He told me, ‘I’ll try sending you early’. In 15 minutes, he sent me the cuts. This means that the list was ready a day before. They don’t understand the urgency of a filmmaker. My crores of rupees are at stake and I want to address those who are assigning the committees – why can’t these members be courteous and kind? Statement toh de do yaar.”

Deepak Tijori continued, “I uploaded the revisions on the CBFC portal by 3-4 pm without arguing about any cuts. “Aditya Lakhia, who says ‘Tum kahan kahan munh maarti ho?’ was out of town. I requested him to re-dub the dialogue with the same intensity. The dialogue was changed to ‘Kahan kahan ghoomti rehti ho’.” I of course mentioned that ‘pennies’ is not derogatory. Meanwhile, my distributors had already informed me that I was late in giving the delivery. I was waiting for the certificate and though I was told that I’ll get it by mail, I sent my man to collect it from the CBFC office.”

The issues continued for the filmmaker, “At 5:55 pm, when I didn’t get the certificate by mail, I dialled the RO. The RO said that my man has to be in the office in 5 minutes, that is, by 6:00 pm or else the certificate will be given to me the next day, that is, Thursday. I was shocked. They could have simply mailed it to me. Thankfully, my man reached at 5:57 pm. I once again called the RO to hand over the certificate. My man waited and meanwhile, at 6:15 pm, I got the certificate on mail! My man was not given the certificate. Anyway, I attached the certificate to my final cut and did the final mastering for the DCP. It took 8-10 hours and my work got done on Thursday early morning. As a result, my delivery got late and in certain centres, my morning shows did not happen”

Deepak Tijori sighed, “Imagine this is the plight given to the filmmakers by the new CBFC committee. How disrespectful and heartless they are that they can’t understand the agony of the filmmakers. Firstly, they don’t give us enough time before release. Secondly, they blackmail us so that we can’t even object to it. I also want to make a plea that why can’t there be a Censor Board office in Andheri, which is the hub of the industry? Why are we going all the way to Peddar Road?”

He also complained about the casual suggestions made by the CBFC members, “Do they even know the repercussions of an adults-only certificate on a film? We then can’t sell the satellite rights. We even face issues in our OTT deals. Inko mazaak lagta hai kya?”

Deepak Tijori signed off by saying that the earlier CBFC chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani was much better, “There was not a problem at all (when I went to certify my film Do Lafzon Ki Kahani). There was a kiss in it. They told me ‘Thoda sa yeh scene kam kar dijiye’. I willingly did it.”
