The much awaited film, Ram Setu, was finally released on the occasion of Diwali. Starring Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead, it is directed by Abhishek Sharma of Parmanu (2018) and Tere Bin Laden (2010) fame. In the opening disclaimer, Ramesh Taurani and Kumar Taurani, of Tips Industries Ltd, have been mentioned under ‘Special Thanks’. It caught the attention of several people in the industry and media and many wondered why they have been thanked. Some murmurs went around that probably, the rights to the title of Ram Setu must have rested with the Taurani brothers. Since they would have parted with the title rights, the producers of Ram Setu must have decided to thank them.
Bollywood Hungama exclusively reached out to Ramesh Taurani. Despite being slightly unwell, the veteran producer was sweet enough to talk to this writer and give out the truth. He clarified that the rumour of Tips having the title rights is not true. He said, “No, we didn’t have the title. In the climax of Ram Setu, the Hanuman Chalisa is played in a key sequence. We provided that song to the makers. The rights of this version of Hanuman Chalisa belong to Tips. Since we gave them the permission to use the track, we were mentioned under ‘Special Thanks’.”
Ram Setu tells the story of an atheist archaeologist Aryan Kulshrestha, who has a change of heart when he goes on an expedition to study the Ram Setu. All his life, he believed that the bridge was naturally created. But during his research, he realizes that it was indeed constructed by Lord Ram. What happens next and how he gets into the bad books of a powerful villain forms the rest of the film.
The version of Hanuman Chalisa played in Ram Setu is composed by popular music composer duo Ajay-Atul and is sung by Ajay along with singer Shankar Mahadevan. Interestingly, it was used in Vaah Life Ho Toh Aisi (2005), starring Shahid Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Amrita Rao and Arshad Warsi.
