At FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week in October 2022, things got off to a great start with designers serving up boundary-pushing statements. Some designers upped the gilded materials and embellishments that continue to entice the ready-to-wear market with their glitter and sparkle. The prints were equally edgy and captivated the crowd. Esha Amin's collection, Afro-Rhapsody, debuted on the third day of Lakmé Fashion Week with a burst of vivid colours and bright prints with superb craftsmanship in dresses, pants, co-ord sets, and drape styles morphologies.

A fashion presentation by designer and ace stylist Eshaa Amiin has always been a colourful, fun filled, look at clothes. It was little wonder therefore that Eshaa’s collection “Afro Rhapsody” showcased at Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI was an energetic, vibrant dose of her personalised style sensibilities. The collection came alive with the punk culture of that region in all its exotic glory at the event which took place at the Jio World Convention Centre, India’s largest & foremost venue for marquee exhibitions, conventions, and social events and located in the heart of Mumbai’s business district, Bandra Kurla Complex.

Colours have always been the leitmotif of the designer’s offering and this season too, Eshaa allowed her creativity to meander through bright, rainbow hues as well as showstopping prints. Her silhouettes were myriad as she catered to buyers who long for a variety of options that will take them through the day and into those after dark soirées. Fashion followers will be delighted by the assortment of dresses, comfy pants, co-ord sets along with drapes for formal wear.

Eshaa’s embellishments were as adventurous as her designs, so the beadwork was intricate, the braiding imaginative, cording looked complex, while the fringes were inspired by South African culture, which also inspired the title of the collection. For Eshaa, fabric manipulation was of prime importance to achieve diverse surface texturing. Making an impact on the ramp were the stylishly constructed pants, blouses and funky dresses that added a colourful touch to the line

A mix of interesting surface developments like fabric manipulation, bead work, braiding, Shapes of Bird feathers and nature, cording, fringes were inspired from the Southern African Culture called Afro Punk. Esha toyed with the designs that portrayed the African culture with her elaboration to each outfit, using many lines and a mixture of yellow, orange, and green. Chitrangada made her Afro-Rhapsody the star of the show. Chitrangada Singh, who is stunning, ignited the ramp with her strong and glamorous Afro appearance. Chitrangada wore a colourful dress that was influenced by the Afro-punk movement in South Africa. Speaking of the outfit's details, it had a stunning blue and mustard colour pattern, a thigh-high split, tassels, and tulle fabric at the hemline. In addition, the attire included a feather and braided twist that accentuated the appearance. The displayed design assortment is claimed to be the ideal option for anyone looking to flaunt a simple, carefree look for casual events.

She maintained a glossy appearance to go with her color-coded clothing. The bohemian appearance was enhanced by the Smokey eyelids and brown-tinted lips. The crumpled, frizzy, and braided hairstyle worn by Chitrangda complemented the mood of the designer's collection. With her flawless makeup and mustard boots, she completed the look. As she walked the ramp, Chitrangda clearly exuded the ultimate boss lady vibe.

For the fun-loving fashion followers who want some vibrant, conversation stoppers in their wardrobe, Eshaa Amiin’s “Afro Rhapsody” will strike all the right fashion notes.

Eshaa Amiin added, “For this presentation, I drew inspiration from my travels and the abundant richness of the culture that South Africa encapsulates. My label this time worked towards creating a head-turning statement with vibrant colours, bold prints and string-strong silhouettes for the modern women. All three designers alongside were very impressive and had distinctive style. The experience has been absolutely wonderful and I’m excited for the journey ahead.
