Anil Kapoor begins shooting for Jr NTR's Dragon in Hyderabad, returns to Telugu Cinema after 46 years

Anil Kapoor has reached Hyderabad to kick off filming for the highly anticipated Pan-India film Dragon, directed by Prashanth Neel. Featuring Jr NTR in the lead role, the film is already generating significant excitement and is expected to be one of the biggest theatrical releases of 2027. The first installment of the ambitious project is slated to arrive in cinemas on June 11, 2027.

Before beginning work on the film, Anil shared a nostalgic moment with fans on social media. On August 5, which marks actress Kajol's birthday, the actor posted a heartfelt Instagram Story remembering their time together while shooting Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain (1999) at Ramoji Film City.

Recalling a memorable conversation from those days, Anil revealed that Kajol had once playfully told him that even years later, after getting married and raising a family, he would still be shooting at the same location. Her light-hearted prediction unexpectedly came true as he returned to Ramoji Film City on her birthday, this time for Dragon. Describing the coincidence as a "true blessing," Anil also expressed his wish to reunite with Kajol on screen in the near future.

The film also marks a major milestone in Anil Kapoor's career, as it brings him back to Telugu cinema after a gap of 46 years. He made his Telugu debut with Bapu's Vamsa Vruksham in 1980, a film that also introduced him as a leading actor. During the promotions of Animal in Hyderabad in 2023, Anil had fondly spoken about working on the film, sharing that the experience taught him discipline. He recalled waking up at 4 a.m. every day to prepare for the demanding schedule, an experience that left a lasting impact on him.

In Dragon, Anil Kapoor takes on the role of Raghuveer Rathod, the Chief of India's Narcotics Bureau. Set in the backdrop of the opium trade during the 1960s, the story revolves around Jr NTR's character, Luger, the ruthless assassin-in-chief of the Afghan Trading Company.

As the narrative unfolds, Rathod becomes the biggest obstacle standing in Luger's path and his expanding criminal network. The confrontation between the Narcotics Bureau and the powerful trading syndicate forms the core of the story. According to industry buzz, Anil's character is expected to be a commanding authority figure whose unwavering pursuit of justice will lead to one of the film's most intense and significant face-offs. With its powerful cast, high-stakes narrative, and Prashanth Neel's direction, Dragon is shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited releases in Indian cinema.

EXCLUSIVE: Adnan Sami talks about ‘Ishq Tamasha’, BLASTS society’s HYPOCRISY: “We glorify Devdas, Romeo-Juliet and Laila-Majnu, but MOCK people who fall madly in love...we call them ‘Devdas ki aulad’”

After wowing audiences with the quirky yet progressive ‘Lipstick’, Adnan Sami is back with the intense dance number ‘Ishq Tamasha’. The track combines the emotional depth of a romantic ballad with contemporary pop-rock production and expressive visual storytelling. The strikingly mounted video also evokes memories of Adnan Sami’s creatively filmed music videos from the early 2000s. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the legendary singer-composer spoke about ‘Ishq Tamasha’, his evolving musical sensibilities and a lot more.

‘Ishq Tamasha’ is quite intense and impactful and also completely different from ‘Lipstick’… I have a whole host of songs that are in the pipeline. We started off with ‘Lipstick’ and it had a completely different vibe from whatever I have done in the past. ‘Ishq Tamasha’ is a completely different song from that. They don’t have any connection whatsoever, as you can tell. This is a very intense romantic song. In the past, I have done a lot of songs from very different types of genres – songs like ‘Kabhi To Nazar Milao’, ‘Bheegi Bheegi Raaton Mein’ and ‘Tera Chehra’ on one hand and also ‘Lift Kara De’, ‘Gela Gela’, ‘Aye Udi Udi’ and ‘Kiss Me Baby’ on the other. I have also done qawwali. So, I have these different genres that are in me, and they reflect a lot of who I am as a musician and as a person. They also reflect my upbringing. You are what you listen to and what you are influenced by. Since I have lived all over the world throughout my life, obviously there’s so much of influence that I have picked up wherever I lived.

In the forthcoming future, I am going to be sharing all of that. The forthcoming songs would also stand out in terms of their arrangements, themes, texture, etc. It is exciting for me as a musician. I finally got into a zone where I decided that I want to bare all (smiles). I don’t want to get stuck into any particular genre.

Why do you think this is the right time for you to bare all? Because even the listener has evolved. In the past, the listener was prepared to listen to very limited music. There was film music, which had its own texture and genre. Then there was a little bit of experimentation on the independent side. So, you needed to work around that perimeter of music. Now, formats have changed and streaming has come in.

Earlier, a listener would buy cassettes. You had a certain amount of money and you would walk into the music store. Most of the people could buy just 1 or 2 cassettes based on their budget. As a result, the listener would buy only that album that he had heard on radio or seen its music video and was comfortable with it. Accordingly, the person would buy those two cassettes and listen to their songs to death (laughs). There were a hundred other cassettes of other films and albums. But the listener would not buy them, citing ‘Maine inke gaane nahin sune aur mere paas paise nahin hai udaane ke liye’. And it was fair; even I used to do the same as a student.

Consequently, everyone was roaming around that perimeter of music. But with streaming coming in, things have improved. Let’s say that you have paid Rs. 100 to access a subscription of a music app. By paying just Rs. 100, you could listen to the songs from the entire world. Now, because you have the facility, you will listen to different sounds. You’ll say ‘Hey, I like that’. Suddenly, your mind opens up. You are far more receptive towards all kind of music as you have got the exposure.

And that’s not all. Today, we have international acts coming to India of all kinds of genres that one didn’t expect that people would like. Yet, they are filling up stadiums. This makes me very happy. I grew up with so many different genres and compositions of all kinds. But I was not able to present them to the listener as I knew that he or she was not possibly accustomed and tuned to take it in. Hence, I stuck to a particular format. Now that the listener has become attentive and receptive to such genres, I am really enjoying this as now, I can go anywhere. So, now I have decided to do just that (smiles). It allows me to open up my creative banks.

‘Ishq Tamasha’ is an intense romantic song about a man who is so madly in love that he worries he may be making a fool of himself and become an object of ridicule. How did the idea for the song come about? We, as a society in India and elsewhere, have this tendency. When we read about Romeo And Juliet, Heer Ranjha, Laila Majnu or watch Devdas, we glorify them and say ‘Waah…romance ho toh aisa ho’! But when we see somebody doing the same in real life, we mock them. Why this hypocrisy? We say ‘Majnu ban gaya hai, pagal ban gaya hai, Devdas ki aulad’. They’ll also say all kinds of nonsense like ‘Kya hua agar woh chali gayi? There are many fish in the ocean’! Your parents may tell you, ‘You’d look back at this and you’ll laugh at yourself’. When you’re going through it, you feel small and dejected. You wonder, ‘Why are you making fun of me? I am just in love with somebody’. You also feel ‘Main nahin, yeh log pagal ho gaye hai’!

‘Ishq Tamasha’ is about this hypocrisy. By and large, most people go through it.

Vishesh Bhatt responds to Awarapan 2 clash with Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947: “It's our fortune and luck that we get to share this release date with Sunny Deol”

With the trailer of Awarapan 2 set to launch on August 6, anticipation around Emraan Hashmi’s much-awaited sequel continues to grow. The film, which arrives in cinemas on August 14 during the Independence Day holiday weekend, will face competition from Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947. Despite the high-profile box office clash, producer Vishesh Bhatt has expressed confidence and gratitude, saying the release date was chosen with audiences in mind rather than competition.

Addressing the much-discussed clash, Vishesh Bhatt said, “We came on the date that seemed best. It's our first release coming into 14th August on a holiday and it's our fortune and luck that we get to share this release date with the legend Sunny Deol and and it's with a lot of humility we would like to bring the film on a holiday so more people can also come and watch this film.”

#Awaarapan2 producer Vishesh Bhatt answers the question on the Independence Day clash with #Batwara1947.

He says it's THEIR fortune to share this release date with the LEGEND SUNNY DEOL ♥️

ALL the best to them as well!!

Healthy clash ho jaye....!! #SunnyDeol pic.twitter.com/8R3R3bhzki — Deva Ki Adaalat (@SunnyDeolFanHu) August 4, 2026

His remarks reflect the makers’ positive outlook towards the festive release window, which traditionally draws large crowds to theatres. Instead of viewing the simultaneous release as a rivalry, Bhatt emphasized that the holiday period offers moviegoers an opportunity to enjoy multiple films on the big screen.

Awarapan 2 marks the return of Emraan Hashmi as Shivam Pandit nearly two decades after the original Awarapan earned cult status among fans. The sequel also stars Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Suvinder Vicky and Vijayant Kohli, promising a blend of action, romance and emotional drama while carrying forward the legacy of the 2007 film.

Music has always been one of the biggest strengths of the Awarapan franchise. Songs like ‘Tera Mera Rishta,’ ‘Toh Phir Aao,’ and ‘Maula Maula’ continue to enjoy immense popularity years after the original film's release. Keeping that legacy alive, the makers have already hinted that Awarapan 2 will feature a fresh soundtrack while retaining the soulful musical identity that made the first film memorable. The music is expected to play a key role in connecting both old fans and a new generation of audiences.

With nostalgia, music, and Emraan Hashmi reprising one of his most loved characters, Awarapan 2 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of the Independence Day weekend.

Neha Bhasin calls out Bhumi Pednekar for focusing on protest language instead of Police action: “Gooda nahi hai toh chup rehna best hai behen”

Neha Bhasin calls out Bhumi Pednekar for focusing on protest language instead of Police action: “Gooda nahi hai toh chup rehna best hai behen”

Singer Neha Bhasin has publicly criticised actor Bhumi Pednekar over her recent comments on the language used by protesters during the CJP-led NEET-UG 2026 demonstrations. Bhumi's statement, which urged young protesters to avoid using abusive language while expressing their anger, had already sparked widespread debate on social media. Many users argued that the actor focused on the protesters' choice of words instead of addressing the alleged police action during the demonstrations.

The controversy stems from Bhumi's Instagram video, where she expressed concern over videos showing protesters using offensive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Emphasising the importance of maintaining respect, she said, “Looking at the videos surfacing now, the kind of language being used, and the way the youth of our country are speaking — the youth of our country... this isn't how we talk, man. We are talking about someone who holds the highest office in the land today. And it’s not just about the office; would we ever speak like this to the elders in our own homes? Can we really resort to using abusive language?” She further added, “Guys, this isn't our culture; it’s wrong, and this really bothered me — that’s why I wanted to come forward and address this: a country will only progress and move forward when, collectively and unitedly, we discuss our flaws as well as the good things. Our culture and value system form our backbone; we shouldn't stray from them, otherwise, we won't be able to communicate the right things in the right way, and they will never be implemented or lead to change.”

However, Bhumi's remarks drew criticism from several social media users, who questioned why she did not address the reported use of force against students during the July 20 Sansad March. Videos circulating online allegedly showed protesters being lathi-charged, tear-gassed and assaulted by police personnel, prompting demands for accountability. Joining the criticism, Neha Bhasin shared a strongly worded post questioning the silence over the alleged police conduct. She wrote, “I would have really respected our dear PM more if there was calling out of police for openly, inappropriately touching women during the protests as he is offended by the use of gaalis. He himself said these are kids. But the police is appointed to protect and abide by the law. So why is there no accountability there.” The singer also took a direct dig at Bhumi, stating, “Bhumi Pednekar Lock Upp pe bhi scripted thi aur protests ko lekar bhi. Gooda nahi hai toh chup rehna best hai behen (She was scripted in Lock Upp and also about the protests. Sometimes its best to keep your mouth shut)." Bhumi had recently appeared as Janta Ki Awaz alongside Huma Qureshi in the Judgment Day episode of Lock Upp, hosted by Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh. The controversy comes against the backdrop of nationwide protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. Organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), thousands of students gathered at Delhi's Jantar Mantar demanding reforms in the education system and the resignation of the Education Minister following several student suicides. Although Dharmendra Pradhan later resigned, protesters have continued to press for broader reforms. The demonstrations intensified after the July 20 march towards Parliament, when videos purportedly showing police using batons, tear gas and physical force against protesters surfaced online, triggering widespread outrage. Randeep Hooda joins Global Sikhs' relief mission to support flood-affected families in Assam's Sivasagar

Randeep Hooda joins Global Sikhs' relief mission to support flood-affected families in Assam's Sivasagar

Actor, filmmaker, and humanitarian Randeep Hooda has once again stepped forward to support people affected by a natural calamity, this time by visiting flood-hit Assam to take part in relief operations. Teaming up with Global Sikhs, an NGO he has been associated with for several years, the actor spent two days in Sivasagar, one of the regions worst impacted by the floods, helping families who have been displaced by the disaster.

Over the past week, Global Sikhs has been carrying out extensive relief work across the flood-affected districts of Assam by providing food, shelter, and other essential supplies. Randeep joined the volunteers on the ground and actively participated in distributing ration kits, freshly cooked meals, mattresses, tarpaulins, bedding, toiletries, and other household essentials to families taking shelter at the Sivasagar Railway Station after their homes in nearby villages were submerged.

This is not the first time the actor has collaborated with Amarpreet Singh-led Global Sikhs during a humanitarian crisis. Randeep has worked closely with the organisation over the years and has previously participated in relief operations during the Punjab floods last year, the Kerala floods in 2018, and at border migrant camps in Nowshera, where he helped distribute relief material to people affected by border conflicts and natural disasters. His continued involvement reflects his long-standing commitment to humanitarian service.

Sharing his experience after interacting with the affected families, Randeep Hooda said, “Whenever you stand amidst people who have lost their homes, their belongings and, in many cases, their sense of security overnight, you realise how fragile life can be. These families aren't looking for sympathy; they're looking for support, dignity and hope. Spending these two days in Sivasagar with the Global Sikhs has been an incredibly humbling experience. I've been associated with the organisation for many years now, and what continues to inspire me is the spirit of selfless service with which every volunteer works. They don't ask where someone comes from, what language they speak or what faith they follow they simply see people in need and step forward to help. That, to me, is the true essence of humanity.”

He further added, “The scale of the devastation here is heartbreaking. Meeting children, elderly people and entire families who have been forced to leave everything behind reminds us that disasters don't discriminate. What they need immediately are essential food, clean water, shelter, medicines, bedding and above all, the reassurance that they haven't been forgotten. I sincerely urge everyone keep Humanity above everything else and contribute in whatever way they can, whether through donations, volunteering or simply supporting credible organisations working on the ground.”

Apart from participating in the relief work, Randeep also visited the Gurudwara Sahib in Sivasagar, where he offered prayers for the safety and well-being of those affected by the floods, as well as for the volunteers and rescue personnel engaged in ongoing relief efforts.

By personally travelling to the affected region and contributing his time alongside volunteers, Randeep Hooda has continued his association with Global Sikhs in supporting communities facing difficult circumstances. His participation highlights the importance of collective humanitarian efforts and encourages more people to come forward and assist those rebuilding their lives after the devastating floods.

No change in King’s release date; Shah Rukh Khan ALL SET to take on Avengers: Doomsday, Jumanji: Open World and Dune: Part Three this December

No change in King’s release date; Shah Rukh Khan ALL SET to take on Avengers: Doomsday, Jumanji: Open World and Dune: Part Three this December

After a three-year absence from the big screen, superstar Shah Rukh Khan will return this year with the highly anticipated action entertainer, King. A special announcement promo unveiled in January confirmed that the film would arrive in cinemas on December 24. In recent weeks, however, speculation has been rife that King might miss its scheduled release and be pushed to 2027. Bollywood Hungama has now learnt that there are no plans to postpone the film and that King remains firmly on track to release on December 24, 2026.

Significantly, King will arrive amid three major Hollywood releases. December 18 will witness the epic clash between Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three. Avengers: Doomsday is expected to take a thunderous start; in fact, the extraordinary box office performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has further underlined the massive demand for Marvel films among Indian moviegoers.

In comparison, Dune: Part Three is likely to appeal to a relatively niche audience. However, the Rs. 27.86 crore lifetime business of Dune: Part Two (2024) indicates that the franchise has a significant following in India. Moreover, its release in IMAX is expected to further boost its box office prospects.

Finally, Jumanji: Open World is part of a franchise with strong mass appeal. The previous two instalments collected more than Rs. 50 crores each at the Indian box office, and expectations are therefore high from the Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan-starrer.

A trade source commented, “In India, King will have an edge as it is a Hindi film starring Shah Rukh Khan and several other prominent actors. Among the Hollywood releases, Avengers: Doomsday will pose the strongest competition, as the franchise is now one of the biggest in India. Internationally, however, all three Hollywood films are major releases with blockbuster potential. This is where King could face some challenges in securing an adequate number of screens.”

The trade source continued, “However, only a film of King’s calibre can take on such Hollywood giants. Shah Rukh Khan is the biggest Indian star overseas. Moreover, Yash Raj Films is distributing King in international markets. They will surely leverage their years of experience and goodwill to secure the best possible screens and show timings.”

An industry insider remarked, “Many were hoping that King would release in 2027. However, that would probably have meant waiting until after April or May. Love & War is scheduled to release on January 21, while the holy month of Ramzan begins in the first week of February. This will be followed by major releases such as Spirit on March 5 and Varanasi on April 7. By arriving during Christmas, King may initially face some screen-sharing issues. On the positive side, however, it won’t face any fresh competition until Republic Day. If the word of mouth is as strong as expected, the sky is the limit for the film.”

One section of the exhibition ecosystem that remains concerned is the single-screen sector. A theatre owner, speaking on the condition of anonymity, sighed, “It will undoubtedly be a beneficial period for the box office. We only hope that distributors and studios do not arm-twist us or force us to screen just one film.”

Kajol marks friendship day with a heartfelt message on self-love; watch

Friendship Day is often celebrated by expressing gratitude to close friends, but actor Kajol chose to mark the occasion with a different perspective. Instead of dedicating the day to someone else, the actress used the opportunity to reflect on the importance of self-love, reminding her followers that the most enduring friendship is the one people share with themselves.

Taking to Instagram on Friendship Day, celebrated on August 2, Kajol posted a nostalgic collection of throwback photographs along with an emotional note. In her message, she described her "best friend" as someone who has been with her since birth, revealing that it took her years to truly appreciate and understand that person. The actress shared that she now recognizes the value of this lifelong companion and has made a promise to always stand by and love her.

Sharing her thoughts, Kajol wrote, "Happy friendship day to the one who has stood by me since I was born and before .. it took so long for me to realise how precious she was and how much she fought for me even when I didn’t see it .. I see her now .. and I know her and love her so much more… and last of all I promise to love her and fight for her as well forever."

Her post struck a chord with many social media users, who filled the comments section with heart emojis and messages of appreciation. Several fans agreed with her reminder that every meaningful friendship begins with learning to value oneself.

Kajol has often celebrated Friendship Day by acknowledging the people who have played important roles in her life. Over the years, she has shared warm moments with her close circle, including longtime friends from the film industry such as Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar, both of whom have shared memorable professional and personal bonds with the actress.

The actress has also taken a light-hearted approach to such occasions in the past. On National Best Friend Day last year, Kajol jokingly introduced her "best friends" to fans, revealing that they were her coffee, crochet, and books. Explaining why she had no pictures with them, she wrote, "I couldn't get any pictures coz I was spending time with my best friends, and they really don't get social media....my coffee, my crochet, and my books."

With this year's Friendship Day post, Kajol once again offered a thoughtful message, encouraging her followers to appreciate themselves just as much as they value the people around them.

EXCLUSIVE: Side Heroes to have a theatrical release on Friendship’s Day 2027; Varun Sharma says, "It is not just a hilarious friendship film; it’s like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara..."

On the occasion of Friendship Day, actor Varun Sharma has exclusively spoken about his upcoming film, Side Heroes, a promising story celebrating friendship and centred on three friends. He assured audiences that it is not merely a maddening comedy but also explores important aspects of life. He further drew parallels with the iconic friendship film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011).

Varun Sharma said, “Side Heroes is not just a hilarious friendship film. It’s like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – it makes us realize what truly matters in life, success and views happiness with a fresh lens.”

Side Heroes is backed by Imtiaz Ali, Mahaveer Jain and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba. Besides Varun Sharma, the film also stars Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana. A few days ago, Bollywood Hungama exclusively revealed that a fresh face has been cast as the female lead in this coming-of-age friendship film.

Set in the heartland of India, Side Heroes tells the poignant yet comical story of three childhood friends who reconnect at a reunion after 15 years of distance and silence. It is an entertaining tale about friends rediscovering the true meaning of happiness while exploring themes of dreams, love, memories and life.

Meanwhile, another major update is that Side Heroes is being planned for release on Friendship Day 2027. Considering the film’s theme, the release date couldn’t have been more appropriate.

Sonu Nigam recalls being BANNED by music companies over copyright fight: “God told me, ‘Tu apne peak par apne career ko chod dega. Aur tu yeh panga lega. Tu nahin lega toh kisi mein guts nahin honge…’”

Sonu Nigam recalls being BANNED by music companies over copyright fight: “God told me, ‘Tu apne peak par apne career ko chod dega. Aur tu yeh panga lega. Tu nahin lega toh kisi mein guts nahin honge…’”

Sonu Nigam opened up about his career, the ups and downs, and much more in a conversation on the YouTube show 'Game Changers with Komal Nahta'. At one point during the conversation, he talked about the controversial time in his career when he was banned by music companies for raising the copyright battle.

Sonu said, “I used to release album after album. Log pagal hote the. Things were going great. Then, I raised the copyright issue due to which the music companies banned me. They stopped working with me. People used to say ‘Yeh toh activist ho gaya hai’ (smiles). The people of those same companies now pay royalty to us and come to my house for a meal.”

He analyzed the reason behind his step, “Somebody had to bell the cat. Bhagwan ne mujhe sirf gaane ke liye nahin banaya tha. God made me for the movement that Lata Mangeshkar ji had started, but it didn’t reach its logical conclusion. That’s why God told me, ‘Tu apne peak par apne career ko chod dega. Aur tu yeh panga lega. Tu nahin lega toh kisi mein guts nahin honge. Tu yeh panga le sakta hai’.”

Komal Nahta asked whether he was scared at that time. Sonu replied in the negative and explained, “I never imagined that I’ll be banned. Maine socha tha ki hum isme mein se nikal jaayenge. Lekin cheezein kharab hoti gayi (smiles). When I saw that all doors were shutting down, I knew that stage pe toh main tod raha hoon. Mat do gaana, stage pe toh tum mujhe rok hi nahin paaoge.”

When asked how things got better, Sonu Nigam said, “Laws changed. Music companies realized that ‘Sonu has never been wrong’. Then, times changed. My relation got better with the music companies. Ab toh ‘bhai’ ke ilawa baat hi nahin hoti. I guess we all had to go through the experience. The bitterness that they had for me has gone away.”

EXCLUSIVE: Daya Shankar Pandey’s Mahima Shani Dev Ki created a Jai Santoshi Maa-like cultural phenomenon; sparked a 400% INCREASE in temples across India; Ramanand Sagar’s kin reveals, “My grandfather asked, ‘Yeh kaun dekhega? Shani se toh sab log darte hai’”

EXCLUSIVE: Daya Shankar Pandey’s Mahima Shani Dev Ki created a Jai Santoshi Maa-like cultural phenomenon; sparked a 400% INCREASE in temples across India; Ramanand Sagar’s kin reveals, “My grandfather asked, ‘Yeh kaun dekhega? Shani se toh sab log darte hai’”

Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan is arguably the most popular show in the history of Indian television. He and his family subsequently created several more devotional series for the small screen. While some of these shows had a significant cultural impact, their influence remains largely unknown. One such series was Mahima Shani Dev Ki, produced by Ramanand Sagar’s grandson Shiv Sagar and written by his son Prem Sagar, who is also Shiv’s father. Titled Mahima Shani Dev Ki, it was an overnight success and topped the charts for a long time. As per the website of Sagar World, “the number of Saturn (Shani) temples went up by 400% in the entire country due to the impact of the show, which for the first time showed Shani in a positive light as a planet of justice and punishment, versus a harsh planet that everyone was afraid of!”

The show’s impact mirrored the cultural phenomenon witnessed after the release of Jai Santoshi Maa (1975), often described as one of the biggest return-on-investment successes in Indian cinema. In a May 2025 article published by The Times of India to mark the film’s 50th anniversary, it was noted that anthropologist Veena Das had written in 1981 about how Santoshi Ma temples proliferated following the movie’s success, “not only in metropolitan cities but also in pilgrim cities like Varanasi”. She explained, “After watching the film, many bhakts wanted to visit a Santoshi Mata mandir to express their devotion, to do fasting rituals or just sit there to pay obeisance. That’s why so many mandirs came up at that time.” Mahima Shani Dev Ki appears to have created a similarly extraordinary cultural impact.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Shiv Sagar revealed, “My dad, Prem Sagar, conceived that show in 1992. He went to my grandfather and expressed the desire to make a show on Shani. My grandfather asked him, ‘Yeh kaun dekhega? Shani se toh sab log darte hai’.”

He added, “But in 2008, we got an opportunity. For the first time, we cast a positive face – Daya Shankar Pandey – for Shani. Until then, makers had usually portrayed Shani in an aggressive or negative avatar. Meanwhile, our take was very different on the show. If you’ve done something wrong and Shani is the God of Justice and Punishment, He’s just doing His job. So, don’t blame Him. Blame yourself for indulging in some wrongdoing (laughs)!”

Shiv continued, “This take was different and it worked. Then, so many other shows came on Shani Dev. There was a show on Colors TV as well. But we were the original creators in 2008 for NDTV Imagine.”

He also stated, “That show did very well. It ran for 4 years and always topped the charts. Then it was aired on Dangal TV because Manish R Goswami ji had acquired the rights. Even on Dangal, it was the number one show. Meanwhile, Dangal was the number one FTA channel in India, courtesy all the Sagar shows.”

Birthday special: Mrunal Thakur's western style is anything but basic, and THESE 6 looks prove it!

Mrunal Thakur is keeping herself far away from the basics of fashion, and it’s clearly working for the Dacoit star. One look at her western wardrobe, and you’d see how she’s adding flair to it with a plethora of colours, patterns, fabrics and aesthetics. As she celebrates her birthday today, here’s looking at the times she dramatised her western wardrobe.

Blacked Out: Mrunal dons a fitting, straight black outfit with strapless shoulders, offering a silhouette that accentuates her curves. The actress keeps it richly sophisticated by pairing her ensemble with contrasting drop earrings, styling her hair in a slick bun and glamming up with striking deep kohled eyes that add character.

SCOOP: Shah Rukh Khan fetches Rs 50 crore for King music; One of the biggest deals of recent time

Shah Rukh Khan is among the biggest superstars of Indian Cinema, whose starpower travels across the globe. After a spectacular theatrical run in 2023 with two blockbusters - Pathaan and Jawan, he returns on the big screen this Christmas with the Siddharth Anand directed King.

While the hype is at an all time high, Bollywood Hungama has exclusively learnt that the superstar is negotiating a record deal for the music rights of King. "With Sachin - Jigar on board, King music is among the hottest properties of the year. Sony, Sare Gama and T Series are making big bids to fetch the music. Leading the race is one of the above with an offer of around Rs 50 crore," a source told Bollywood Hungama.

This would mark the third biggest music deal of modern times after Ramayana and Dhurandhar 2. "King is setting records in non-theatrical business. It is on the verge of sealing one of the biggest deals ever for an original music album in Hindi. One must note that Ramayana is Rs 75 crore for both parts together, and King is on the verge of closing with Rs 50 crore with a single film," the source told us further.

Directed by Siddharth Anand, King is all set to hit the big screen during the Christmas 2026 weekend. The shoot is almost wrapped up, with just 15 days pending. The post production and edit work is going on in full swing too.

Main Vaapas Aaunga 50-day bash: Naseeruddin Shah makes a RARE appearance and declares he has NO plans to RETIRE; Irshad Kamil recites an UNRELEASED poem; Sharvari makes a welcome return

Main Vaapas Aaunga 50-day bash: Naseeruddin Shah makes a RARE appearance and declares he has NO plans to RETIRE; Irshad Kamil recites an UNRELEASED poem; Sharvari makes a welcome return

A celebratory party was organised by the team of Main Vaapas Aaunga to mark the film’s completion of 50 days in cinemas, a remarkable feat in today’s times. The event was attended by director Imtiaz Ali; actors Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, Sharvari, Sanjay Suri, Rajat Kapoor and Manish Chaudhari; casting director Mukesh Chhabra; lyricist Irshad Kamil; producer Shibasish Sarkar; and others. Naseeruddin Shah’s presence added considerably to the excitement as the veteran actor seldom attends such events. Sharvari, who had been out of the country for a shoot while the film achieved this milestone, was another welcome presence.

The event began with Imtiaz Ali, Vedang Raina, Sharvari, Sanjay Suri, Manish Chaudhari and others informally meeting journalists. Then, Naseeruddin Shah entered and the journalists hooted for him. A mic was arranged and Imtiaz began on a funny note, “I want to say thanks to the media. Most of you are much younger than me and I don’t take you guys seriously at all! Also, most of you are just cinema buffs camouflaging as journalists!”

He then said, “The greatest pleasure today is that Naseer is here,” and handed him the mic.

Naseeruddin Shah made it clear that he has no plans to retire, “Ever since I crossed 70, I’ve been receiving offers to accept a lifetime achievement award! I’ve turned down all of them because getting a lifetime achievement award means yeh lo award aur jaao! So, I’ve no intention of yeh lekar jaana (laughs)! That is why I don’t accept these awards because I don’t think my job is done. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this film. I am extremely proud of it. Thank you all for the support.”

Irshad Kamil raised laughs as he admitted, “When Imtiaz told me the film’s story, I wrote a poem and told them, ‘Yeh mere dimaag mein aaya hai’. Aur woh (poem) hum film mein nahin rakh paaye!”

But at the event, he uttered those lovely lines: “Ab bhi teri kaali zulfein kaandhe pe lehraati hai, ab bhi teri kaali zulfein kaandhe pe lehraati hai, meri umar ke saal athatthar, chhup gaye mere saafe mein!”

Vedang Raina said, “I am very happy that Sharvari is back in India. It's very difficult to get hold of Sharvari these days. She’s very busy, touchwood! Finally, she’s here, celebrating with us. We missed you on every other day.”

Vedang was asked to sing the male portion of ‘Maskara’. He also shared a funny anecdote, “It was our 180th interview! I was asked to sing the song. I was all set to sing ‘Kahan Se’ when I wondered if I could sing another song. Imtiaz sir asked me if I knew the songs of Rockstar (2011). I did, and I sang. Right after the interview, somebody told me, ‘Hamare paas iss gaane ke rights nahin hai’! And the next interview, I was back to ‘Kahan Se’ (laughs)!”

Vedang then again added to the fun by remarking, “I am next to Naseer sir right now, and I must acknowledge that. Watching the film, I felt like ‘we were one person’! But I had barely seen him or met him. It's really special that we are here celebrating the success of the film and also the fact that he’s here. He’s one of the most important reasons for the success. I am very grateful.”

Due to public demand, Vedang did sing ‘Maskara’. Finally, Sharvari also took the mic and thanked the media for the support, “This film has become what it has become because of your love that poured in. From the bottom of my heart, I am so, so grateful to be receiving this love.”

Mamta Kulkarni reacts to ‘Rana Ji 2.0’, praises Mahira Sharma; says she is ready to return to films with the right script

Mamta Kulkarni reacts to ‘Rana Ji 2.0’, praises Mahira Sharma; says she is ready to return to films with the right script

90s star Mamta Kulkarni has shared her thoughts on the recently released track ‘Rana Ji 2.0’, featuring Mahira Sharma. The song is a modern recreation inspired by the iconic ‘Mujhko Rana Ji Maaf Karna’ from the 1995 blockbuster Karan Arjun, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Kajol, and Rakhee. The original number, which also featured Amrish Puri and Ranjeet, remains one of the most memorable chartbusters of the 1990s.

Reacting to the recreated version, Mamta appreciated Mahira Sharma’s performance while acknowledging that the new rendition adopts a completely different visual treatment from the original. “She has done a good job. The point is that you're watching a song that was originally in ghagra choli and Indian dance moves, now made in a western format and in a western outfit. So, it stands out. But the earlier song is etched in people's minds, so it immediately comes to your mind,” she told Variety India.

The actress also looked back at filming the original song and recalled how the choreography underwent last-minute changes despite multiple days of rehearsals. She shared, “The rehearsals were scheduled for two to three days. But I got the steps right on the first day itself. When I arrived on the set, the steps were changed. I asked him why he had changed the steps. I wondered what the point of the rehearsals was, but Chinni Prakash masterji was very good, and we wrapped up the song on time,”

Speaking about the enduring success of Karan Arjun, Mamta credited filmmaker Rakesh Roshan for bringing together a massive ensemble cast and delivering one of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters. “I give credit to Rakeshji for completing such a complicated film with so many artists. Karan Arjun became a superhit. Whether it was ‘Jai Maa Kaali’, ‘Bhangda Paa Le’ or ‘Ek Munda Meri Umr Da’, people loved all the songs,” she added.

Mamta also revealed that she is open to making a comeback to acting, provided she finds a project that genuinely excites her. She went on to say, “I've been receiving acting offers. If I get a script I'm truly excited about, I'm ready to take it on."

However, the actress admitted that her spiritual journey has significantly influenced the kind of work she wishes to do now. While she cherishes the memories associated with ‘Mujhko Rana Ji Maaf Karna’, she believes she would not perform a similar song today because of its lyrics. “Of course, I won't be able to do a song like ‘Mujhko Ranaji Maaf Karna’ today with these lyrics. I'm spiritually conscious and awakened now. So, some songs don't work for me. I have to be more conscious of the lyrics than the dancing. Back in the day, I never thought about lyrics, as I was more focused on perfecting dancing steps. I was young and immature at that time,” she admitted.

Mamta Kulkarni’s remarks not only celebrate the lasting popularity of one of Bollywood’s most iconic songs but also reflect how her perspective has evolved over the years. While she remains appreciative of her cinematic legacy, the actress says her future choices will be guided by stories and characters that align with her current outlook and values.
